Sitting on the floor, leaning against the door, a whirlwind of thoughts raced through Leyne's mind. He didn't realize how long he had been there until there was a knock at the door.
Tez: "Leyne? The door is locked, is everything alright?"
Leyne: {What can I do? There's no way for me to get out of this... Unless I can find an opening to escape... And to think I had so many opportunities yesterday}
Getting up, he wiped his tears and opened the door.
Tez looked at him.
Tez: "Were you crying?"
Leyne: "Yeah... I was... But don't worry, I'm fine."
Leyne finished speaking, going to lie down on the bed.
Tez: "I'm going to make you some soup, I think something light will be better. And you can't go without eating."
Leyne: {That's funny, if he's going to send me to certain death, why does he still want to feed me?}
...
Leyne: "I'm not hungry! Don't worry about me. I'm sure you have better things to do."
Tez sat down on the bed beside him.
Tez: "Remember when you fell into my garden, and I told you I would know if you were lying?"
Leyne: "And if I was, you would kill me, right? I do remember. Go ahead and do the honors."
Tez held Leyne's arms, pulling him closer.
Tez: "Listen carefully, I don't like games. You lied! Now tell me what the real problem is!"
Leyne: "The truth is, I know you don't want to let me go, to hand me over to the enemy!"
Leyne burst into tears.
Leyne: "What kind of crap was that destiny thing you said? Were you messing with me? Didn't you understand what I meant when I said those words? They gave me hope! Because ever since I fell over your wall, I felt safe. I wasn't cold, and I was fed... It may not seem like much to you, because you've never hit rock bottom!"
Tez let go of Leyne's arms.
Tez: "You think there are no consequences for trespassing on someone's property? You created this whole fantasy in your head."
Tez moved away from Leyne and leaned against the door.
Leyne: "Why are you acting so cold now? You were treating me well..."
Tez: "I have no obligation to treat you well! I just didn't want you to starve to death. I helped you as I would help anyone else on the street."
Leyne: "Why did you kiss me back?"
Tez: "I don't know. It doesn't matter. You know what, if you don't want to eat, then I'll do my own thing."
Tez went downstairs.
Leyne: {All this for nothing? I have to escape!}
...
In the kitchen Tez grabbed some vegetables and cooked a soup. As soon as he finished, he walked towards the collection room but stopped in front of the portrait wall.
Tez: "Taissa... I'm going to keep my promise. And forgive me for taking so long."
Tez touched the picture frame where he was smiling next to his sister.
The doorbell rang, and Tez went to answer it. There was no one there, but a letter lay on the floor. Tez opened it.
"We received your message about the exchange. I accept, but we will not come to you. Come to the west harbor at five o'clock this afternoon. Wait in front of a boat called 'Tenancy'. Don't forget our coin.
Richard Maldonado."
Tez crumpled up the letter and threw it on the floor in anger.
Tez: "Damn it! I should have expected that. He's smart..."
Walking with heavy steps, Tez entered the collection room. He opened the closet.
Tez: "I'm going to have to disturb your rest."
...
Leyne went downstairs with his stomach growling. He easily found the soup made on the stove and served himself.
Leyne: {He said he wasn't going to do anything... What does that mean?}
Slapping himself in the face, Leyne tried to get back to reality.
Leyne: {I'm acting like a schoolboy. There's no point in thinking about feelings in my situation. I need to get out of here. And if I've stayed alive these past few months, it's because I've known how to do this very well}
With the last few spoonfuls of soup, Leyne noticed Tez watching him from the kitchen doorway.
Leyne: "Don't say a word! If you made this soup, it's because you knew I was going to eat it. I'm not going to thank you for it."
Tez: "Since you're done, get dressed and grab a coat. We're going out."
Leyne: "What? We're going out?"
Tez: "That's right. Hurry up, I'm waiting in the living room."
The bowl of soup was left on the table, and Leyne went upstairs to obey Tez's orders. He got dressed and grabbed a coat from the closet.
Leyne: {I have to be aware that this is not a date, or an outing. He must be taking me to my enemies. Now is the time. I have to take any opportunity to escape.}
When Tez looked at Leyne, he was quiet for a few seconds. Leyne had his light brown hair tossed to the side. The pants he was wearing were one of the new ones in his size that Tez had ordered.
Tez: {He looked great in the right size clothes.}
Leyne smiled mischievously.
Leyne: "Do I look good?"
Tez: "Let's go. We don't have much time."
Hurriedly, Tez looked away and opened the garage door.
Tez: "Get in!"
Leyne: "I didn't even realize there was a garage here. Why are there three cars? Are they all yours?"
Tez: "Yes. Put on your seatbelt."
Leyne: "Okay."
...
The car left the house and headed towards the west harbor. On the way Tez remained silent, which was making Leyne even more nervous.
Leyne: "Where are you taking me?"
Tez: "It doesn't matter."
Leyne: "Yes, it does. I'm all dressed up, and by the way, thanks for the clothes."
Leyne smiled kindly.
Tez: "I... I asked Rodrigo to see to that. He understands these things better than I do."
Leyne: "It's true. We're practically the same age, and he's quite pleasant. It was fun playing cards with him, even though I had no idea he would beat me so easily. Well then, when you see him again, thank him for me. Since it's becoming obvious that I won't have the opportunity..."
Tez: "Shut up!"
Leyne was startled.
Tez: "I don't want you to say another word until we get there, do you understand?"
Leyne nodded, his eyes welling up with tears.
