Episode 14

Samir

Sitting in the garden\, I stare intently at the window of my *zawja's* bedroom.

Her scent still lingers on my hand, and it feels etched into my mind. Her gaze... ah, those ocean eyes!

They're not ocean eyes because of the color of the ocean's waters, but because of what they convey. Yasmin's eyes are like the sea, sometimes calm and soothing, making you sigh and want to rest, sometimes turbulent and threatening to pull you in and swallow you whole!

And I am drawn to my Yamin's gaze in any of its forms, from calm to intense. Her eyes captivated me from that moment at the airport.

That calm, inviting gaze, urging a tranquil plunge into the unknown, where I felt trapped.

And the scent... I smell my hand again and smile at the gesture. It would have been crazy to imagine myself doing such a thing hours ago, but here I am, restless and eager to see those eyes once more.

"Looks like we have an impatient groom here." I hear the voice of my brother, Harmed. "The sun has set and you're still there, staring at the window." he smiles.

"Is it normal to be impatient for something that I didn't initially desire, brother?!"

Harmed is two years younger than me, but just as wise as Kafar.

"If your question refers to your wife, then yes, it's normal. I noticed how you defended her during the contract signing ceremony, and everyone else did too." he smiles discreetly. "It's certain that your young wife felt very happy to be protected so well by her husband."

I nod my head and smile.

"I acted on impulse, I confess..." I take a deep breath. "But if I had to, I would act the same way again. You know, Harmed... as soon as I stood by my zawja, I felt a desire to protect and take care of her. And her scent feels etched into my mind... is it possible with just a touch of hands and a few glances?" I ask, confused.

"It is possible, as I experienced it with my Hanya!" he smiles, and I see the adoring look in my brother's eyes. "My wife found a place in my heart at first glance. But my heart was empty, whereas in your case, someone has already taken it, hasn't she?" he looks at me, concerned.

"Honestly..." I rub my face with my hands, and that intoxicating scent makes me close my eyes and imagine my Yasmin again. "I can no longer guarantee that Silvia is completely in my heart, Harmed. She had condemnable actions," said horrible things about our people, our culture, and even our family. "I feel sad."

"And she came to our gates to create a scandal, didn't she?" he sighs.

"How do you know that? I dealt with the situation myself while everyone else was in the living room." I'm intrigued.

"The head of security came to talk to us about the incident." I grumble, irritated. "Samir, don't get worked up. You know it's our father's order that any incident be reported to his children." I only nod. "But it's not what that girl, Silvia, did that really worries me..."

"What do you mean?" I ask, confused.

"The head of security waited for Amin to leave and confided in me that he saw Samira tampering with the security room, and he thinks she somehow got hold of the footage between you and that girl. So please, my brother, tell me you didn't do anything inappropriate." he looks at me attentively.

"I didn't, I only talked to her and... Oh! How foolish I am!" I complain.

"What did you do, Samir?" he stares at me, disapprovingly.

"Just as I was leaving, she kissed me." my brother shakes his head.

"Samir, where is your judgment, my brother? Did you just throw it away?" he scolds me.

"But I was caught off guard, Harmed. But I quickly pushed her away and had the security guards escort her out."

"However, knowing Samira, we know that she can use this to sow discord and distrust in the heart of his wife, my brother." Harmed touches my shoulder. "It's no use saying anything to Amin, because he is always blinded by sweet words and the poison of his wife seems to have blocked his ears and thrown his judgment to the wind. So you will have to resolve this matter, investigate and find out for yourself if our sister-in-law has really done something to poison your wife against you."

"But how am I supposed to do that? I can't go to her, it's against our customs..." I think worriedly. "Unless I ask our father for permission to see her tomorrow at the end of the second ceremony, or find a way to see her after dinner tonight."

"Well, talking to her after dinner is risky..."

"But it doesn't hurt to try." I say, excited. "I can't let a misunderstanding afflict my wife's heart, brother."

He smiles and sighs, then shakes his head and walks away, but he turns slightly and looks at me.

"It's amazing how you still haven't realized that this foreigner never took residence in your heart."

"Why do you say that?" I frown.

"Ask yourself, Samir... in this whole situation, who do you really care about? The foreigner who wanted to hinder your marriage, or the young woman who is up there, in that room where you have been observing the window for hours? If you know the answer, you will know who is taking residence in your heart!"

He walks towards the house and I go back to looking at the window... I stand up and walk quickly. I need my father's permission!
