Episode 5

Suddenly, I feel like I'm out of breath, almost as if I had stopped breathing for so long that when the air finally enters my lungs, I try to capture as much oxygen as possible.

At last, I'm back, I nearly died for real, I told myself when I finally breathed normally again and opened my eyes.

Rosita...now I know who she is and how loyal and loving she was to Sol, I see her tearful eyes and can't help but feel a stir in my heart—sadly, in my past life, I had neither a mother nor a sister, so this sentiment is akin to that.

Rosita: My lady, you've awoken, my God, this is a miracle, thank the Lord for hearing my plea.

Doctor: Miss, how do you feel? It's truly a miracle we have you back, especially after you stopped breathing for a couple of minutes.

Sol: Water, please, I need water—just a few minutes, it felt like an entire lifetime to me, haha, bad joke, sorry.

Rosita: Of course, right away.

Rosita promptly approached with a glass of water, which I needed since my throat felt parched.

Sol: I remembered, Rosita, I remembered who you are.

That's all I could say to make her feel better. Perhaps these weren't my emotions, but for some reason, it felt good to see her happy.

Her eyes sparkled and her joy translated into a beautiful smile she shared with me.

Sol: My father?

I asked because I needed to know exactly where I stood in my new life.

Rosita: Miss, your father has yet to return from the war, but the battle has ended. Rumor has it, they have already departed the empire for their respective kingdoms.

—This means those harpies are yet to arrive. The novel is just about to start just like the miserable life of Sol, well, my life. I'm no longer Macky; now I am Sol D'angelo, and they'll learn not to mess with me as they will lose.

"Now, I shall be the villain"—I thought.

Sol: So, my father is about to return. I'm relieved to know he’s well and that the war is over. I'm feeling better; I'd like to go out for some fresh air.

I said this knowing I needed to get out and familiarize myself once more with the surroundings and also to prepare for what's coming, understanding the lay of the land is crucial.

Rosita: Very well, Miss, but we need to get you properly dressed.

Sol: What?—I didn't understand what she meant by 'properly'—Did I fasten it wrong?—I inquired, somewhat bewildered, ensuring the buttons were correctly in place.

Rosita: No, Miss, you haven't put on your corset, the dress isn’t laced up in the back, and you're missing the petticoats that go beneath.

Sol: What!! More cloth, oh Lord, I’d like a dress like what you're wearing, with less material, please; all that’s going to grill me alive.

Rosita: Your what?

Sol: Nevermind, I know what I mean. Please, I need simpler dresses, with fewer hoops and bows, and less tulle or petticoats or whatever it's called.

Rosita: Alright, Miss, I understand, but you don't own such garments; however, we could go shopping.

Sol: Wow, now that's a good idea; Okay, find me the simplest dress I have and the shortest undergarments.

Rosita: Miss! We don't discuss such garments, all underwear is the same.

Sol: Well, it seems then I'll need to find a tailor to craft something more to my taste.

Rosita: I'll send the maids to assist you while I prepare the carriage.

Sol: Yes, yes, go on, do what you need to do.

Rosita rushed out as two more girls came in to help me dress.

Macky was a bit embarrassed as she wasn’t used to being seen naked or assisted with dressing unless it was one of her lovers, but she figured she might grow accustomed to this lifestyle, although she doubted she could ever get used to wearing as many layers as 'cloth' as she called it.

Maid: Miss, please stand firm and suck in your stomach.

Sol: Where should I put it? There's no more room. If I didn't die a moment ago, this would kill me since I won't be able to breathe.

Maid: Lift your leg, I’ll help you into the...

Sol: No, no, no, only one, and the least puffy please, remember, I just woke up from death, too much fabric is heavy and might harm me—I chuckled, needing an excuse to get them to ease up.

Maid: Alright, Miss, you are ready now.

Maid 2: Now please sit so we can do your hair.

Sol: What? Another torment? No, I’ll do it myself.

Sol had long hair, so she could manage a high bun or a neatly-done braid on her own and would avoid the hair-pulling and those hairstyles she remembered seeing in history books.

Maid 2: But Miss...

Sol: Don’t worry, I know what I’m doing.

Maid 2: As you wish, Miss.

Sol brushed out her hair and braided it to the side, ready to step out.

It wasn't long before Rosita came back to the room, accompanied by someone else who, having learned she had finally woken, couldn’t wait to see her.

Magnolia was like a mother to Sol, and in turn, Sol was like another daughter to her.

When their eyes met, Magnolia couldn't help but cry tears of joy. Already a frail old woman, she felt guilty for not being able to protect her lady as she wished to. Yet she did everything to provide as much love as she could offer. Unfortunately, her advanced age prevented her from working much or being close to Sol but in her stead, her granddaughter Rosita was there, looking after Sol as if it were her own child.

Magnolia: My child, finally, you are awake. I knew your mother would not let you leave us so young; you have a long life ahead, my dear.

Sol: Nana Magnolia, I’ve missed you so much—tears flowing.

Magnolia walked over and hugged her, both crying together.

Magnolia: There, there my child, I'm here now to look after you. Forgive me for not being beside you.

Rosita: My grandmother fell ill when you had your accident; her blood pressure soared, that's why she couldn’t come, but when you woke, nothing could stop her.

Sol: Nana, rest, please. I don’t know what I’d do if you fell ill. I’m alright now, so you take care, okay?

—Undoubtedly, the feelings and memories of the true Sol were present. The joy Macky felt in Sol's place was as if it were her own. In the end, it seemed like both souls had merged. The new Sol was overjoyed to see and be with those two people she loved dearly again.
