Under The Scarlet Sky

Under The Scarlet Sky

The King's Death

It was already dusk when I and my comrades headed back to our beloved kingdom to celebrate after a victorious war in invading another land in Namiya. As we arrived, the people in the kingdom immediately gathered around us.  And as they gathered around, I noticed something strange. I didn't see my father sitting at his thrown like he used to do.  I immediately reached out to my father's butler to ask him a question. I asked him with a worried tone in my voice. "Where's my father?"

He answered, and I can feel the sorrow in his voice as he answered. "The King is already dead my Lord." As I heard the butler's answer, I then immediately rushed towards my father's bedroom. And when I reached there I could hear my mother crying. And as I opened the door, I was completely shattered by what I just saw. A bed soaked in my father's blood, a beheaded body of him laying on his bed peacefully, and his head hanging in the window facing towards his villagers. I don't know what to do about what I just saw so I didn't notice that one of my greatest warriors named Raiden was already behind me. He tapped my shoulder to catch my attention before he told me something.

He said, "My Lord the General of Kindayo has arrived in our kingdom."

"Let him in," I replied. "Yes, my Lord," he said.

He then walked away heading to the general to let her in.

As Raiden walked away to let the general of Kindayo in the palace, I slowly walk towards my mother and cupped her face to wipe her never-ending tears for my father.

As I did that my mother told me something, something that made me longing to take revenge for my father's death.

She said, "Before your father's death, there was a strange man who entered our kingdom and was very eager to see your father. But the guards of the palace didn't grant his wish so he killed them all. And after he did that, he headed to your father's room where your father was peacefully sleeping."

My father's butler had arrived to tell me that the general wanted to talk with the King, but the King was dead.

"The general wanted to talk with the King but the King was already dead my Lord, what should we do?" he said.

I replied, "I will be the one to talk to the general." "Yes, my Lord," he replied.

I assessed my mother to get up while she was still crying in my father's cold arms.

"Nate, please help my mother to her room so that she can take some rest," I said.

He nods as a sign of compliance. "By the way, where's the general right now?" I asked.

He responded, "She's in the leaving room right now my Lord."

I then started walking towards the leaving room to grant the wish of the general. As I was walking, I was still bothered by What ifs from what my mother just told me earlier.

I asked myself, "A strange man? Who could that man be? Who is he?!"

After a few minutes, I finally reached the leaving room and entered there. I then sat next to Kenzo, the Master Chief General of Kindayo.

As I glanced at the people sitting on the leaving rooms couch, I couldn't find the general of Kindayo anywhere. I looked for him but I could only see Kenzo the Master Chief General of Kindayo, Hanzo the Chief General of Kindayo, some of the General's bodyguards, and a girl. As I saw her my world almost stopped spinning. Her pale skin is as white as snow, her lips are as red as cherries, and her eyes, her eyes are as precious as emeralds. Her incomparable beauty immediately captivated my attention. But, wait! What if she's the general's fiance? or what if- what if she's the general? Wait, what am I even talking about?! I'm too confused right now, I guess I'd better ask Nate about this so I won't become more puzzled.  Luckily he's just beside me.

"Nate, who's the general of Kindayo?" I whispered to him.

"Say again, my Lord?" he said while a floored reaction was displayed on his face.

I whispered to him once again, "Who's the general of Kindayo?"  He responded, "Her name is Kitana Suruyo, my Lord.

The only female general in history here in Shunji, she's right in front of you my Lord."

I gazed at her once again and I was stunned as we made eye-to-eye contact with each other.

I didn't expect that she was already looking at me. She cleared her throat in a way to capture our attention.

"General Vale, may I ask you a question?" she said.

I respond, "Yes you may General."

"Where's the King of Namiya, General?" she asked.

I replied, "The beloved King of Namiya was already dead general." I can see the dismayed reaction in their eyes.

"How exactly did the King die?" she asked with a confused tone in her voice.

"The King's bed was soaked by his blood as his body is laying in there peacefully while his head was hanging in the window facing towards his villagers," my voice was full of sorrow as I replied to her question.

She asked me once again "Did a strange man want to see the King before he died?" I nod, how exactly did she know that?! does this mean-?
