Chapter 4
Miss Carla
Pardon me dear, but what if it's just your imagination?
Miss Carla
Look, I'm not trying to invalidate what you saw, but I'm just saying, it is night time, and shadows can play tricks on us sometimes.
Wayne
I swear, I saw it moving toward me, and I didn't even move an inch.
I replied, my eyes already swollen from crying.
I looked directly into Carla's eyes, trying to convey the sincerity of my fear.
Wayne
I-I moved here to escape that... that thing, the one that... that's been stalking me.
Wayne
All these years, it's just... watching my every move, following me everywhere I go.
Wayne
And now, it's here with me, in my new home... I don't know how it found me, but I can't be mistaken... It's after me...
Carla patted my back sympathetically, realizing the gravity of the situation.
Miss Carla
I am truly sorry that I doubted your experience.
Miss Carla
I didn't mean to dismiss what you saw, and I understand why you would be so frightened to encountered something that seems out of the ordinary.
Miss Carla
Let's get you settled in a room for the night, and we can discuss more tomorrow morning. Come, I'll show you to your room and make sure you have everything you need.
Miss Carla
Oh, please excuse the mess. I'm not used to having guests over, so the room might not be as pristine as you'd like. But please make yourself comfortable, let me know if you need anything.
Carla apologized and I felt my cheeks turn red in embarrassment.
Wayne
No, it's fine, really. I'm used to it. My former house was probably messier than this.
We both chuckled, breaking the tension in the air.
Wayne
Thank you for letting me spend the night here. I promise I'll leave at sunrise.
Carla looked at me with concern in her eyes, refusing to let me go so easily.
Miss Carla
It's okay, you can stay here until you feel safe. I don't want you to leave if you're still in danger.
Wayne
No, really, I'm fine. I would be more embarrassed if I further intrude on your space.
Wayne
Besides, I don't want to put you at risk if something unwanted happens.
Carla furrowed her brows, seemingly not convinced by my insistence.
But in the end, she sighed.
Miss Carla
Fine, if that's the case, then at least promise me you'll report this to the police tomorrow.
As I sat on the edge of the bed, trying to make sense of everything, I felt a mixture of fear and relief.
I had managed to escape my house unscathed, but the knowledge that this entity was still lurking, waiting for the right moment to strike, sent shivers down my spine.
The room's dim lighting from the small chandelier above made me feel uneasy, so I looked around and my eyes fell on some candles at the side of the bed. I also found a lighter and decided to light the candles.
Once the candles were flickering gently, I lay on the bed, gazing at the ceiling.
I tried to focus on anything else, anything that could distract my mind from the haunting experiences of the evening.
Eventually, exhaustion took over, and I drifted into sleep.
As Wayne drifted into sleep, a gentle wind blew through the open window, causing the candles to flicker.
Suddenly, the window creaked open, and a mysterious figure silently entered the room.
The figure moved with an eerie fluidity, like a shadow come to life. It blew out the candles with a soft breath, casting the room into darkness.
Carefully, the figure approached the sleeping Wayne and settled down beside her sleeping form.
Its presence was eerie and unsettling, as if it was watching over her while she slept...
