Miss Carla, are you there?

I called out, raising my voice in the hope that she would hear me.

But all I received in response was an eerie silence that sent a shiver down my spine. My heart sank further with worry.

As I cautiously went deeper into the kitchen, I could hear faint scratching sounds coming from some unknown source. The anxiety and fear mounted with each step.

Upon entering the kitchen, she was nowhere to be found, leaving me holding my breath, waiting for the unexpected.

The room felt strangely cold, and the atmosphere was thick with tension.

Suddenly, I sensed a presence behind me, and my heart leaped into my throat.

Ahh!

Miss Carla

It's just me, Wayne! It's just me.

Carla's voice broke through the fear that had gripped me moments ago.

As her words registered, my racing heart began to gradually calm. Thankfully, it was only Carla standing there.

I let out a shaky breath, trying to compose myself after the intense fright I had just experienced.

Wayne

Where have you been?

Miss Carla

I received an unexpected call, so I answered it upstairs. I'm sorry it took so long.

I was incredibly relieved that Carla was safe.

The thought of her getting hurt because of my troubles filled me with guilt, especially since she had been the first person to show me kindness after my parents' passing.

She lived alone and had no close relatives in the city, which created a unique bond between us.

And since I didn't want to put her in harm's way, I made the decision to leave her place after sunrise.

I didn't want to further disturb her or risk her safety because of me.

Carla went to prepare a drink for me and persuaded me to join her in the living room.

Miss Carla

So, what's going on with you? Why are you sprinting like this? It's way past eleven.

Carla's tone was urgent and insistent.

I tried to explain to her what had been happening, but my words were jumbled and incoherent.

Wayne

I was getting re-ready for bed... when I-I suddenly heard a n-noise... from outside my ro-room...

Wayne

I go-got curious... so I went to investigate.

Wayne

But when I opened the door, th-there was no one there...

I managed to let it out, my words faltering as fear gripped me once again.

Then my emotions overwhelmed me, and tears began to flow.

Wayne

Then... when I turned around...

Wayne

I saw this da-dark shadow at my window... I panicked... and ran.
