The following day, Sabrina woke early as usual, dropped her daughter at school, and then headed to the resort for work. That day she went alone, unable to benefit from Camila's ride, but upon arrival at the resort, she started her daily tasks only to be summoned by her supervisor and manager. She made her way to the reception to speak with them and was met with an unexpected directive from Manager Agatha.
With a sarcastic smile on her lips, Agatha looked at Sabrina and said:
"So, you're trying to climb the ranks quickly, Sabrina? Well, I want you to scrub and clean the entire reception floor, to show you that you only move up here by working!"
Sabrina was taken aback and slightly disconcerted by Agatha's demeanor.
"Climbing the ranks quickly? I don't understand," Sabrina questioned.
"Innocent act! I saw you getting into Don Mauricio's car last night, and I heard it's not the first time you've tried to catch his eye. You'd better remember your place here," Agatha said authoritatively.
Sabrina was surprised and a bit shaken by Agatha's behavior. She knew the manager had an authoritarian streak but didn't expect Agatha to show jealousy.
"Agatha, I wasn't trying to get Don Mauricio's attention. It's not what you're thinking or inferring," Sabrina tried to explain.
"Don't try to fool me, Sabrina. I noticed how he was looking at you by the pool these past days. I'm sure you're scheming to seduce him and exploit the situation, but as long as I'm here, you won't succeed."
Sabrina took a deep breath, attempting to stay calm amid Agatha's unfounded accusations. She knew she had nothing to hide but also wanted to avoid exacerbating the situation.
"Agatha, I understand you might feel uncomfortable, but I have no romantic interest in Don Mauricio," Sabrina sought the right words.
"I don't believe you. From now on, you'll perform this extra cleaning task as a lesson. Enough talking, start cleaning that floor," Agatha commanded.
Sabrina decided not to argue further with Agatha at that moment. She knew it was pointless to try to prove her innocence to the manager. Instead, she focused on accepting the task and doing the best job possible. She began applying cleaning products to the floor and scrubbing with a mop under the silent observation of Luciana and Agatha.
"Not with the mop, I want you to use a brush and kneel to clean properly. I want this floor to shine," Agatha ordered, and a lump formed in Sabrina's throat. She took a brush, knelt, and began cleaning as instructed.
All day long, Sabrina worked tirelessly to clean and scrub the reception floor. She was determined to show Agatha she was neither self-serving nor manipulative. Though physical fatigue was building up, her resolve remained steadfast. Just as she was nearing completion, Agatha approached.
"It's still dirty here," Agatha pointed out.
"Where? I've cleaned everything," Sabrina looked around, puzzled.
"Here, now clean this," Agatha said as she intentionally spilled her coffee on the floor.
Anger rose within Sabrina, tired of the humiliation, but needing her job, she was on the verge of responding when she saw Camila approaching.
"Agatha, did you just spill coffee on the floor and tell Sabrina to clean it? Is that what I just saw?" Camila asked, approaching with visible upset.
"Camila, don't interfere. I manage the staff, now clean," Agatha ordered.
"You're not going to clean, Sabrina, until you explain to me what's going on here, Agatha, or should I call Don Mauricio?" Camila said sternly.
"Camila, this housekeeper needs to learn a lesson. I will not tolerate employees trying to get close to the boss improperly," Agatha retorted, her voice edgy, and then Camila grasped what was happening, always keenly observant.
"Sabrina, stand up from the floor and go finish your other tasks, please," Camila instructed.
"But she hasn't finished cleaning," Agatha protested.
Sabrina stood up from the floor and did as Camila instructed. She gathered her cleaning supplies onto her cart and moved away, noting that everything was clean and shiny except where Agatha had just spilled her coffee.
"Camila, how dare you undermine my authority in front of a cleaner? Have you lost your sense of risk?" Agatha moved closer to Camila.
"What risk? You? Agatha, we both know what will happen to you if I report what I just witnessed here. Maybe you're the one who's lost sight of the danger," Camila stated firmly.
"You won't say anything because I take care of the staff, and I won't allow that wretched woman to throw herself at Don Mauricio. And if you're aiding her in some scheme, I will find out," Agatha threatened.
"Not allow? You're the only one who can sleep with the boss? In your dreams, maybe, because he certainly doesn't see you as exclusive. You'd better wake up from this fantasy you're living in and clean that coffee before it stains," Camila left, leaving Agatha talking to herself.
"Come back here, Camila, I'm talking to you!" Agatha called after her, but Camila did not return.
While finishing up some rooms, Sabrina resolved not to let Agatha's petty behavior affect her self-assurance. She knew her character and intentions. Moreover, she would not allow Agatha's unfounded jealousy to impact her.
However, Camila was irate with how she'd seen Agatha treat Sabrina; she didn't know the exact details but was certain Sabrina did not deserve such treatment, not after enduring previous humiliations. She trembled with anger as she made her way back to her office.
"Camila, is everything alright?" Felipe asked, emerging from Don Mauricio's office, noticing her shaking with rage and growing concerned.
"No, Felipe, I just witnessed an injustice, and I've restrained myself from hitting Agatha," Camila vented.
"Calm down, what did she do this time?" Felipe, aware of Agatha's provocations, offered her a chilled bottle of still water.
"Can you believe she humiliated the new cleaner, making her scrub the floor on her knees while spilling coffee on it? What if a guest or someone records that and accuses us of mistreating staff?" Camila took the water Felipe offered.
"The new cleaner, that would be Sabrina?" Don Mauricio, overhearing the conversation, stood in his doorway, looking at Camila.
"Sir, excuse me, I..." Camila started, embarrassed by her outburst and not realizing he could hear.
"Is it Sabrina? Answer me, Camila," Don Mauricio pressed.
"Yes," Camila nodded.
"And why would Agatha do that?" Don Mauricio queried.
"Don Mauricio, I..." Camila didn't want to cause more problems for Agatha, though she deserved it.
"Speak up already, or I'll lose my patience, Camila!" Don Mauricio shouted.
"I didn't quite catch it all, but it seems out of jealousy. Agatha thinks Sabrina has offered herself to you or something along those lines. I didn't hear the whole conversation, so I'm not sure what's happening,” Camila struggled to explain.
"Okay, you can go home for today. Felipe, please bring Agatha to my office. But first, I want to see the reception's footage," Dom Mauricio commanded, returning to his office as Felipe nodded agreement.
"Felipe, I forgot he might hear," Camila whispered worriedly.
"You did the right thing, Camila. Don't fret, go rest," Felipe said and went to carry out Don Mauricio's orders.
Camila collected her belongings and went looking for Sabrina, who wasn't staying for an extra shift that night. She found her friend in the changing room, finishing up. Both headed to Camila's car, and once they got in, Camila drove off quickly.
"Camila, I'm sorry about that situation with Agatha. I didn't mean to put you in a difficult position," Sabrina apologized, thinking her friend might face problems.
"Agatha's a cow; she had no right to treat you like that. But I need to know if what she said about you and Don Mauricio is true?" Camila inquired.
"Of course not, Camila," Sabrina replied.
"Are you sure? Because Ieda asked me this morning if I knew whether Agatha had given you a ride in a black car home late at night," Camila said, continuing to drive.
"Camila, what did you tell Ieda?" Sabrina asked, alarmed.
