"I confirmed her story and lied, because I know Agatha's car is red. And the only black car belongs to Dom Mauricio, so can you explain what's going on between you two?" Camila said as she parked her car atop a hill that offered a beautiful view of the beach, even at night, under the starlit sky and the shining moon.
"There's nothing going on between us, Camila. He just gave me a ride because I was waiting for the bus. I don't know how, but she saw us and thinks I'm throwing myself at him," Sabrina shared.
"Oh Sabrina, I told you to stay away from him," Camila remarked with concern, shutting off her car and lighting a joint, drawing in the smoke and holding it briefly.
"But honestly, nothing happened. I've been keeping my distance. He was just being nice, and it was so late, Camila. I'm not looking for a relationship. In fact, the thought of any man touching me is traumatic," Sabrina confessed.
"Sabrina, when I say stay away, it's for your own good. He's a powerful man with a lot of women, undeniably handsome and sexy, I know, but he's not one for relationships, I tell you this for your own good," Camila said, passing the joint to Sabrina.
"Have you ever been involved with him?" Sabrina inquired, inhaling the smoke deeply before exhaling.
"No way, I've worked for the Menecucci family for quite some time, always knowing my place. I was left by my mother at a shelter, the product of an affair by a father unknown to me. Raised in the family's orphanage, I started working for them at seventeen at the resort, and worked my way up to the position I hold today," Camila recounted, her story leaving Sabrina reflective on the hardships her friend had endured, emerging as the strong and courageous woman she was. Having finished smoking, Camila passed it back to Sabrina.
"I'm sorry, Camila," Sabrina said, exhaling smoke.
"It's fine, it made me stronger, Sabrina, and it will make you stronger too. You can't bow down whenever someone commands it unless it's a really hot guy," Camila joked to lighten the mood, taking a hit.
"Ah, Camila. I don't even know what that's like. After the trauma, I never got involved with anyone again, so I have no idea how to go about it," Sabrina mused.
"You haven't been with any other man?" Camila curiously asked.
"No, Ca. I still experience many triggers when a man tries to touch me," Sabrina explained.
"I'm sorry, Sabrina. But you know, we women, we can find relief in other ways, on our own. You should try it or you might end up with cobwebs down there," Camila said, attempting to keep the conversation light, and passed the joint back to Sabrina.
"I don't know how to do those things, Cah. The only experience I had was terrible, and I have no desire to try again, so it doesn't even cross my mind. My only concern right now is Mavie's health," Sabrina revealed, taking a puff.
"I can't imagine how hard all this must be for you," Camila sympathized, looking at her.
"I've come to terms with it. Anyway, this place is beautiful," Sabrina remarked, passing the joint to Camila again.
"I often come here to smoke alone and think about my life. I love the sea view from up here," Camila said, inhaling.
The two remained silent, immersed in their own thoughts, until the joint was finished. Then, Camila drove to Ieda's house so they could both rest.
Meanwhile, Dom Mauricio was in his office finishing watching videos from the reception area showing Agatha's behavior. He was furious at the realization that Sabrina had submitted and spent the afternoon practically prostrate at the reception, with various men passing by and ogling her. A surge of jealousy ran through his veins as he recalled the image of her in the short uniform in his room.
"How can I be jealous of something that isn't mine? A woman who is still married to another man!" he thought angrily.
Felipe entered the office later, with Agatha by his side, a smile on her face, believing he would have good news for her.
"Did you want to see me, dear?" Agatha asked.
"Felipe, please leave," Dom Mauricio commanded, and he complied.
Agatha approached him, and as she reached out to touch his shoulder, he grasped her hand forcefully and pinned her against the wall.
"Whoa, a bit more aggressive today, but I like it like that," she said flirtatiously.
"Agatha, I heard about your actions today. Who gave you permission to make the maid scrub the floor in such a manner?" Dom Mauricio demanded, tightening his grip on her throat.
"Dom, I'm the one in charge of the staff; you're hurting me," she protested.
"Call me 'sir,' you whore. All the employees are mine, and I'm the one who decides whether to punish someone or not in this place, do you understand, bitch?" he bellowed, squeezing tighter until she nodded in agreement.
"I need to hear you say it," he ordered.
"Yes, sir, I can barely breathe," she managed to say, her face turning red, before he forcefully let her go, causing her to fall to the floor.
"Here, put this on," he commanded, throwing a maid's uniform at her.
"Sir, but..." she started, picking up the uniform.
"No buts. Put it on now; my patience is wearing thin," he instructed, and she quickly retreated to the bathroom to change.
"Good. Now you're going to learn to never mistreat a staff member here again," he said sternly.
"Dom, are you replacing me with her? Is that why you're doing this to me? I've dedicated so much to you, and I thought there was something meaningful between us, but you're picking a fight with me over that filthy maid, do you want to screw that tramp? Is that why you're punishing me?!" Agatha yelled in distress.
Dom Mauricio, a cruel but sensible man who disliked harming women, felt extremely uncomfortable with the way Agatha spoke about Sabrina. He backhanded her across the face; with the rings on his fingers, the cuts were immediate.
"There was never an 'us.' We've had sex many times, and I've paid you well for it. I can sleep with whoever I want, whenever I want, Agatha. I'd thought you were smarter, but now I'll show you what happens when you provoke my worst side. You like teaching people lessons, so you're about to receive one. Come with me," he commanded, grabbing her arms forcefully.
He brought her to the top floor of the resort, where a cart with cleaning supplies waited.
"Use this brush to scrub the entire floor. You'll start here, and you're going to clean all night down to the reception. These two security guards will ensure you neither sleep nor disobey my orders. I hope you learn your lesson, or I might have to damage that pretty face, which would be a shame," he said, squeezing her cheek.
A tear of humiliation rolled down Agatha's face, realizing that Dom Mauricio was indeed the devil. She witnessed some things but believed she would be different for him.
"Make sure she finishes and call me if she tries anything. I'll be monitoring the cameras. Have a great night with the cleaning you so enjoy, Agatha," he said as he stepped into the elevator to return to his floor.
Back in his office, he found Felipe sitting and having a whiskey, offering a glass to him.
"This maid really did get to you," Felipe observed, watching his friend.
"Did you do what I asked? Did you investigate everything about Sabrina?" Dom Mauricio inquired, accepting the whiskey and taking a sip.
"Yes, Don. Joseph is handling it for us," Felipe reported.
"Good. I want to know who Sabrina's husband is. Find out everything about her," Dom Mauricio ordered.
"I'll take care of it, Don. Are you hitting the club tonight?" Felipe inquired.
"Not tonight. I have some work to finish; I want to get home this week," Dom Mauricio stated, pouring a double whiskey.
"There are a few more meetings at the resort this week with some distributors from Spain," Felipe mentioned.
"Perfect," Dom Mauricio acknowledged.
"Don, you're really going to make Agatha clean all night? Isn't that a bit harsh?" Felipe questioned.
"If she did it to Sabrina, she deserves the same. I can't let her think she can act like she's my woman," Dom Mauricio replied, sipping his whiskey and lighting a cigar.
"This maid really did get to you more than I've ever seen you react to Agatha, but if the girl is married, we could have trouble, Don. Better be careful," Felipe cautioned.
"That's why I want to know who her husband is. After I find that out, I'll deal with whether we'll have trouble or not when I get rid of him," Don Mauricio declared, sitting at his desk to enjoy his drink.
"I'll resolve this with Joseph. Excuse me, Don," Felipe said, finishing his drink and leaving, aware that there was no point in saying more to his boss.
Dom Mauricio sat pensively, drinking and smoking his cigar. He replayed the video of Sabrina cleaning the reception, unable to fully understand why this woman had caught his attention like no other.
"She was so proud in front of me, but why did she comply with Agatha's orders without protest?" he pondered.
