Chapter 5 - Tortured Soul
Traitor
Have mercy... I-I didn't mean to do it...
I stared down at the pitiful sight of a man who confessed being a traitor.
However, he kept on talking and the news made me ripple with anger.
Kylian Shade
What's your name?
Traitor
Paul... Paul McHuson.
Kylian Shade
Paul McHuson...
Kylian Shade
And what did you think you gained by betraying me?
The rage filled my eyes, feeding the curse and only making it grow inside me.
The more negative emotions I feel, the more the curse festers inside me.
I looked at him and frowned.
Kylian Shade
You're wasting my time, Paul McHuson.
Kylian Shade
You aren't of any use to me currently. Do you understand?
Slipping around the handle of my sword, clenching my fist around it tightly, the man was finally ready to speak.
Traitor
It's this gang. It's lead by a man who promised good money to us if we opened the gate!
Kylian Shade
Money wouldn't make you risk your life so brazenly.
Kylian Shade
There's a cause behind this 'gang'. Tell me, what is their purpose?
I saw him shiver, a mixture of fear and the effects of lying down half-buried in the snow.
I looked at him, waiting for the fool to stop stuttering and finally answer my questions.
Traitor
To kill the illegitimate all-devouring monster...
Suddenly, I heard something shift behind me.
Turning around, the last thing I saw was a net being thrown over my head, pushing me to the ground.
Men jumped out from behind every bush and rock with their swords brandished right at me.
I recognized all of their faces.
Those men are on the night watch of the wall.
Those men were training to become the new generation of Shade Knight's.
Traitor
H-Ha... I can't believe it actually worked.
I unsheathed my sword and tried to slice through the net. However, I came at an impasse when I realized that the net was made of metal.
The net was also weighed down with ball weights. It was one of the nets that we used to incapacitate monsters. Even I couldn't slice through it.
Traitor
I-It's nothing personal, man.
Traitor
I just wanted the sick tattoo, but... seeing you like this? A monster in his cage? It was worth every coin.
At that moment, I felt the curse escape. I allowed it, my emotions running out of my control.
My whole body felt stronger, faster, sharper, yet I couldn't control my movements.
Traitor
Fire! Make him bleed!
I slowly began to push myself up onto my legs, the weights holding me down.
I heard the sound of a crossbow shooting... and that's when it faded to black.
