Unable to help it, Prince found himself reminiscing about the same thing again.
He was in bed while Cassi slept and his mind was vividly reliving that memory, as if it had happened only yesterday. He knew how Alphas were and that everything was harder for them, yet despite that, Maiston would have rather taken care of him a thousand times over than do anything against his will.
And Alphas rarely did such a thing because most of them only saw Omegas as a sex toy to satisfy their needs and nothing more.
He thought about it for many nights, remembered the scent of coffee in his pheromones for many days, and after that, coffee became his favorite even though he had hated it before. He closed his eyes because that time he had felt special, that time Maiston had made him feel special, and just like that, he had destroyed it all. He did not want to cry. He never wanted to cry again, so he just stood up to approach the window and look at the moon. It was full, so it appeared larger, brighter, and more beautiful. He smiled because the brunette always talked to him about the moon or the stars, and he had all those memories alive:
"Of course not, who said that?" asked the Alpha as they sat in the park.
"I don't know, everyone says that."
"That's nonsense," he murmured with a smile. "Look, that star over there is called Sirius. That star ranks first among the brightest in the night sky, so it can be seen during the day. It is located at a distance of eight thousand six hundred and eleven light years from Earth and is a blue-white supergiant."
Prince smiled as he listened to him detail all this in his ear. He felt his lips kiss his cheek and moved closer to him. There was a bit of a chill, but next to Maiston, it wasn't felt as much because his body was large and protected him from everything.
He wanted Maiston to keep talking about the stars, so he looked up.
"And what about that one there?"
Maiston looked where he pointed.
"That's Arcturus. It ranks fourth among the brightest and is situated in the Boötes constellation. It is an orange-colored giant spectral type star. It lies at a distance of about sixty-seven light years from Earth," he murmured, watching him smile and feel happy.
It was night, but he thought that not even all the stars were more beautiful than the Omega by his side. He savored his scent, the same rose aroma that drove him wild the first time, and thought he would want it forever.
"Tell me about other constellations," he requested.
It was a park that was often visited at night, but where they sat, there was no one around. Prince could be afraid thinking that there might be a thief or something similar, but he didn't. He knew Maiston would never let anything happen to him.
"Other constellations?" he asked, kissing his cheek.
He watched as the Omega nodded with his eyes closed. He planted another kiss closer to his lips and then moved to his other cheek.
"Tell me what your favorite is," he whispered.
"Let's see," he said and kissed his lips.
Prince was completely lost in that kiss. He felt his tongue against his and forgot they were alone or what they were talking about. Maiston pulled away to move to his neck and he heard him breathe rapidly.
"My favorite constellation is you," he said with a hoarse voice in his ear. "The first time I saw you, you shone brighter than all of them, my beautiful rose."
"I mean it," he clarified, with breath quickening. "Which is your favorite?"
He opened his eyes to see his face close to his. His black hair sometimes got tousled, but it only made him look more attractive than he already was. He liked his skin and especially touching it. He felt their contrasting colors were perfect and blended flawaciously. His large hands caressed his cheek and he looked up to see the night sky. The stars were not very noticeable due to the city's lighting, but Maiston had taken him to many places where the stars looked like paradise.
"The constellation Cassiopeia."
"Cassiopeia?"
The brunette nodded.
"Yes, there's a story that says Cassiopeia was the wife of King Cepheus. She was very beautiful and often boasted that she and her daughter were more beautiful than the sea nymphs, the Nereids. They complained to Poseidon, who released a monster onto Cepheus' land. To save their country, the king and queen offered their daughter Andromeda as a sacrifice."
Prince nodded because he always told him stories of the constellations and stars he liked.
"It's not hard to recognize because its five stars, depending on where it's viewed from, form an M or a W."
"I like that one."
"I like you."
Prince sighed, trying to forget that memory, but it was hard when all the stars he was seeing came with stories the Alpha had told him. He looked for that constellation, and it wasn't hard to find. From where he was, an M was clearly visible.
He thought he was the only one watching the stars, recalling old stories and moments that had been destroyed and damaged, but Maiston felt the same. Unable to sleep, he stood on the balcony of his house watching the night sky. The bed didn't feel comfortable even though someone was sleeping there with him. It felt hard, cold, foreign, almost filled with nails that only caused him pain and discomfort that seemed endless.
He swallowed hard, and at dawn, each went to their respective tasks without imagining that after so much time, they would face each other again.
Maiston simply went to work. He arrived to do what he had to do, but as soon as possible, he just left his office and canceled his appointments without saying a word to Jim because he was tired. The headache wouldn't give him a moment's peace, his eyes even hurt. He walked down the street almost zombie-like, staring at his phone while holding a briefcase.
He was about to cross the street, hoping a car might run him over and end it all.
He wanted something to refresh his body. He wanted to drink until he lost consciousness and hopefully die from intoxication. Knowing the Omega's tastes and the restaurants he frequented, when he saw one of his favorites, he just walked in. A waiter guided him to a table where he sat waiting for his coffee to be brought. He sat there, staring into space, and when his coffee arrived, he didn't even take a sip.
The minutes passed and it cooled down until no more steam came out. They had been to that restaurant together many times and he could almost see Prince in front of him, smiling and saying nice things just like always, something the Omega he was with now never did.
He checked his phone only to realize there wasn't a single message from him when Prince always asked how his work was, if he was tired, if he was hungry, if he missed him as much as he did, or if he loved him as much as he did.
He closed his eyes and ran his fingers through his hair when, out of the corner of his eye, he saw two people pass by. He didn't pay much attention until he caught that scent he could identify even in a crowd of a million. He looked to his right and saw him sitting with someone and it wasn't just anyone. It wasn't Taylor, his best friend, but the same guy who had asked if he could approach him. He didn't know what to say or what to do. He watched them because Prince was smiling, and it was as beautiful a smile as the one he had had with him.
Then, everything felt cold, utterly frozen. In that second, he felt that the entire card castle he had built came crashing down abruptly in one go, giving him no time to cope.
His body trembled at the sight of them talking as if they were best friends, at the sight of them looking happy. He watched Prince because it was obvious he had changed a bit, but he was still perfect for him. His heart hurt and he thought he was about to die. Awkwardly, he stood up, not noticing a waiter passing by with some items, and they collided.
The items fell to the floor causing everyone to look in that direction to see what had happened.
Prince did the same and that's when he saw him, but he didn't want to appear weak and Maiston saw him give a brief glance without the slightest importance and continue talking to the person in front of him. And he didn't want to stay there knowing he was in that place.
The brunette saw them stand up and ignored his wet clothes or how hot it had spilled on him. He watched Prince walk away as if it were nothing, as if he had been a stranger. The fact that the Omega did not look back even once was even worse. He pushed through the crowd, moving past anyone in his path, and then found himself surrounded by hordes of journalists who had appeared out of nowhere. He tried to make his way forward as a couple of them followed Prince, who got into a car with Reich and left.
"What do you think of seeing your ex-husband with another Alpha?" one asked.
"You were a very famous couple, do you think your fame will decline if you are not married to him?" another inquired.
"Does your ex-husband plan to remarry?"
"Are you ready to see him starting a new life?"
"Reich Valencia is one of your major investors, will you end your contracts with him?"
He didn't know how many questions they asked, but he felt suffocated. They were all over him with microphones, not giving him a moment to escape, and he thought of all those times Prince had to face all the journalists and the press alone.
