Episode 11

I hurried over to Kaivan and grabbed his hand. The man who was still standing in the doorway, gazing sharply in my direction, sent shivers down my spine.

"Kai," I whispered.

"Bro, this is Yura, a junior of mine at university. And Yura, this is Bro Aldo, a relative of mine." I hesitated to accept the extended hand of the man named Aldo, until Kaivan nudged my arm and we finally shook hands.

"Come in," Aldo invited.

The house we visited was modest, even verging on peaceful with trees still surrounding it. I sat next to Kaivan, reluctant to be apart from him—not because I was taking advantage of the situation, but because Aldo seemed odd to me.

Besides asking who I was, Aldo also seemed startled upon seeing me, and now his gaze was making me uneasy.

"Bro, you see what I mean? What do you think?"

I grew even more confused at Kaivan's question.

"I'll explain that later, so what's your reason for bringing her here?" asked Aldo.

"She's scared, Bro, I'm concerned she's not mentally or emotionally ready and might just..."

"Lose it," Aldo interjected.

"Hm."

"Wait, what are you guys talking about?" I asked Kaivan and Aldo. "Who's losing it?"

"Yura, I brought you to meet Bro Aldo to discuss your sixth sense issue. I used to live with Aldo because the abilities I possessed were quite disturbing."

"Are you saying he's a doctor or something?"

Aldo exhaled deeply, then crossed his arms. Honestly, I couldn't see any authority in Aldo as someone to consult with considering his appearance.

His hair was somewhat unkempt, and his gaze seemed rude because he had been staring at me, causing me to have a poor opinion of him. Well, his face wasn't that bad. On par with Kaivan, I guess.

*But\, I hate his gaze*.

"Listen Yura, some people are gifted with the ability to see beings or other worlds. This gift varies; some have it from birth, through dreams, or as a family legacy of knowledge. Others acquire it through other means like charms. Which category do you think you fall into?" asked Aldo, and honestly, I didn't know how to answer.

So I turned and looked at Kaivan as if asking him what I should say.

"Just tell him," said Kaivan.

"I-I don't know which category my gift falls under. But I started seeing things in the hospital, and it's a recent occurrence."

"And?" Aldo prompted.

"If possible, I would rather not have this ability," I replied.

Aldo sighed softly, looking down.

"Hm, it's a bit difficult since you don't know the origin of your gift," Aldo replied. "Take Kaivan, for instance; he has had his abilities since perhaps childhood. They can't be removed but can be managed or trained to be braver and more prepared. If trained, it can be an advantage to help others."

"Help others? Just staying sane would be a blessing," I muttered.

"I sense your aura is a bit..."

"Bad?" I cut Aldo off.

"Hard to say, but there is a presence following you. It seems to communicate and..."

I shifted closer to Aldo. "Let's go home, please," I urged Kaivan, clearly being impolite by ignoring our host.

Kaivan exchanged glances with Aldo. My reaction stemmed from Aldo's revelation that I was being followed.

"Keep your distance, you and Kaivan are not mahram," Aldo corrected. "What I mentioned was just a first impression, but that entity can't follow you here; it's still..."

"Kai!" I cried out, feeling more frightened by Aldo's explanations.

"Yura, Bro Aldo wants to help you. Calm down, okay?"

"Help me close this third eye," I commanded Aldo and Kaivan. "No need to explain anything that will make me even more scared."

I listened as Aldo and Kaivan offered advice and ways to neutralize my fear, but I wasn't sure if I could follow through. Day was turning to evening, and I asked Kaivan to head home.

"I've given your phone number to Bro Aldo, hope that's okay?" Kaivan asked before we left Aldo's house.

"It's fine," I replied.

After saying goodbye to Aldo, Kaivan and I made our way to the car. I realized why Kaivan had brought me to meet Aldo; he was once like me, unable to handle his fears. But unlike Kaivan, I wasn't certain I could do what Aldo suggested.

The sky was darkening as we were still in transit; I purposely closed my eyes and fell asleep so that I wouldn't witness anything strange. Kaivan seemed to let me sleep.

"Yura."

"Yura," Kaivan's voice again awoke me with a tap on my cheek. I blinked slowly, looked around, and noticed we were in front of my house.

"Why don't you go in?" I suggested.

"I should head back," Kaivan said, unbuckling his seatbelt.

"What will you take?" I asked worriedly, considering it was already night.

"I'll take a motorcycle taxi," he replied, playing with his phone to book one.

"Well, I'll wait until your ride arrives."

"Don't. You should go inside. If you wait for me to leave, then you'll be alone again..."

"Alright, I'll head in first. You don't mind if I leave you here?"

Kaivan just laughed at my sudden change of plan. After he got out of the car, I moved over to the driver's seat without exiting the vehicle. After he waved goodbye, Kaivan pointed to the gate, signaling for me to go in.

...***...

I arrived early at class and it looked like I was too early since not many students were in our class yet. Today our schedule was merged with the upperclassmen retaking this course, including Kaivan and Refan.

I saw Nana and Mail just pass through the door; Nana greeted me loudly and all I could do was shake my head at her behavior. As usual, Nana sat on my left, Mail nested next to her.

Soon after, more students arrived, including Refan and his two henchmen. Suddenly, I felt annoyed and clenched my fists, remembering the message that the presence following me had conveyed about Refan's villainy.

I stood up and Nana asked, "Where are you going?"

I didn't respond but walked over to Refan, despite still feeling angry about our encounter at the cafeteria.

"Refan, may I have a moment of your time?"

Mid-conversation with his friends, Refan turned to me.

"Oh, Yura. I didn't expect you to come over. What's up, miss me or finally ready to accept my offer?"

I wanted to pull Refan's hair out listening to him talk.

"Sorry, not that. There's something I need to tell you," I said.

"Right here is fine," Refan replied, crossing his arms.

I looked alternately at the two acting as if they were Refan's bodyguards.

"But it's about Anya," I said, and that got a startled response from Refan.
