Episode 5

"You?" I said.

It turned out that the man I bumped into was Kaivan, the enviable figure who was often the center of attention at the university, including from me and Nana. Just this morning, we were in the same class.

"What?" he asked.

*So fierce\, yet so handsome*.

"This is a hospital, don't run around as you please. What if you had bumped into a patient with a broken bone. Wouldn't that have endangered them further?"

"Yes, sorry. Besides, why would a patient with a broken bone be wandering around? And I was just being chased..." I looked behind me but did not see the figure.

"Chased by what?"

I just shrugged, there was no way I was going to say I was chased by a ghost. They wouldn't believe it, I'd just get laughed at.

I was about to walk away to return to Mrs. Broto's room when I froze, seeing a patient falteringly walk by. Not their walk that shocked me, but one of their legs was being gripped by the creature that had touched my leg earlier. It seemed like the patient was dragging the creature along, causing an awkward gait.

My mouth hung open at the sight that had just passed by; I wanted to say something, but my tongue felt tied.

"What's with you?"

"Huh," I finally managed to exhale and shut my mouth.

Kaivan looked at me and then at the patient who had walked by and was now some distance away.

"You can see it, can’t you?"

"Of course, I can, my eyes are normal. I can still see clearly. I can even discern between a handsome man and a playboy."

"Ha, that's not what I meant. You can see what that person was dragging on their leg?"

"Eh." I was surprised that the handsome yet aloof guy in front of me knew what I had seen. Maybe he could also...

"What were they dragging?" I asked, pretending to be clueless.

"Never mind," said Kaivan tersely.

I decided to walk away, leaving Kaivan to head to Mrs. Broto's room. It felt strange to be followed, not by a creepy entity but by a handsome creature – none other than Kaivan himself. I knew I was attractive, but did it warrant Kaivan following me like this?

"Why are you following?"

"Huh, following? You think I'm following you?"

I nodded confidently.

"So sure of yourself, but I'm heading to Mother's room." Kaivan quickened his steps, then opened the door to Mrs. Broto's room.

"Don't tell me he is..."

True enough, Kaivan Seta was the youngest son of Mrs. Broto. I stayed longer in the room because my mother and Mrs. Broto chatted at length, becoming more lively upon learning that Kaivan and I attended the same university, though we were at different levels.

Listening to what they discussed, Kaivan and I both remained silent. We didn't share the same interest as they did. It wasn't that we didn't understand; it just wasn't captivating. For me, my phone was way more interesting than Mom and Mrs. Broto’s chatter.

"Mom," I called out after hearing the call to the evening prayer. My plan not to go back home until dark was nullified by my mother, who was engrossed in her rambling conversation with Mrs. Broto.

"Look, it's already dusk. Seems like we need to leave," said Mom.

*Well\, obviously we're going home\, we can't stay overnight. I don't want to encounter more weird creatures. They're already scary enough in the daylight\, let alone at night*.

"Sweetheart, why don't you do the dusk prayers first?"

Mom looked at me.

"Kaivan, you should take Yura to the prayer room. It's not right to go home at dusk."

What Mrs. Broto said made some sense, so I agreed to go to the prayer room accompanied by Mr. Sulky, while my mom stayed with Mrs. Broto, as she wasn’t able to pray.

Walking towards the prayer room, I just stared at the ground, not daring to look around, feeling their presence.

"Why are you looking down all the time?"

"Huh. Nothing, I just don't like hospitals."

"We just passed by the prayer room."

I stopped and looked back, "Why didn't you say we had passed it?"

"You were busy looking down. I even pointed, but you just ignored me."

I inhaled in annoyance at what Kaivan said. If he just pointed without speaking, no wonder I hadn't noticed.

"So handsome, yet so muted," I muttered under my breath.

"What did you say?"

"Nothing, I didn't say anything." I walked past Kaivan and turned around.

"Don't go that way, that's the morgue."

I reflexively turned again and stood next to Kaivan, "Show me the way, so I don't end up lost in another world."

Kaivan moved on, and I followed beside him. I should have felt proud to be this close to one of the most wanted guys on campus, but his mouth that sometimes made my stomach churn and his rare smile seemed to be a test.

Beside me was a handsome creature, in another place, a ghastly creature that I suspected was watching me. For I felt being followed and watched.

"Go in there," commanded Kaivan.

"Where are you going?" I asked worriedly, fearing Kaivan would disappear somewhere after I was done.

"Don't worry, I'm also going inside. We'll go back to the room together later," Kaivan called out as if he knew my fears of going to the room alone. I nodded and headed for the ablution place. Kaivan seemed to be looking around.

"Hm, you haven't seen them yet. You’d be frozen if you got shocked by what doesn't leave tracks on the earth," I mumbled.

Sure enough, when I finished, Kaivan was nowhere in sight. I looked toward the men's prayer area to ensure Kaivan was there.

"What are you peeping at?"

"Goodness," I exclaimed as Kaivan suddenly appeared behind me.

"Let's go," he urged.

On the way back to his mother’s room, I was not troubled, or more accurately, I saw nothing. After saying goodbye to Mrs. Broto and Kaivan, my mother and I left the room and the hospital. I was grateful not to feel anything strange, not even in the car looking back through the rearview mirror, no figure sitting there.

But that peace didn't last long; as soon as the car entered a quiet residential area because the inhabitants were all busy, a figure unexpectedly appeared in front of the car.

Screech.

I hit the brakes suddenly, causing both my and my mother's bodies to jerk forward. Fortunately, we were wearing seat belts, so we didn’t tumble over.

"Yura, be careful. We could have an accident, you know."

I didn't respond to my mother, choosing to look ahead where the figure still stood, staring at me. With trembling hands, my index finger pointed toward the figure.

"Mom, do you see that?"

I needed to confirm that the figure in front of us was visible to my mother and that the figure was a person. But Mom seemed to confirm what I was pointing at.

"See what?"

I didn't take my eyes off the figure. "Standing in front of the car," I answered again.

"There's nothing there."

I quickly started the car again, driving through the figure while screaming.
