Chapter 3 ( Realization & Determination )

“It's because Your Highness is still too young, which can't stabilize the magical power in Your Highness's body”.

'Too young?'… “Wait. How old am I again?” I asked curiously.

“Your Highness Is going to celebrate your thirteenth birthday in just three months away!”  Lyrine explained excitedly. Apparently, in this world, all will celebrate their birthday on a big scale for two times. Once, when they were thirteen years old, to show that they had entered the realm of adolescence regardless boys or girls, second when they were eighteen years old, to show that they have entered adulthood. To make it short, girls coming-of-age is when they reach eighteen and boys coming-of-age is when they reach twenty-one years old.

'Hmm… that's why Lyrine seems so excited about it'

“… And looking at the symptoms that Your Highness had, I assume the poison is made of flower named Mountain Laurel. It causes people to have skin irritation, vomiting also diarrhea. The effect may not seem dangerous, but in the long term it can spread throughout the body, making the body become frail.”

'Poor girl, only Thirteen and someone already fed you with poison.'  I muttered in my heart. Little did I know that actually….

“Does that means over time, when I grow up, eventually my body can withstand the magical power?” I asked again, as I am not familiar with magical power. If it's like that, I will just have to train this body. Thank Goodness I learned martial arts before.

“But it requires quite a lot of training. I am scared that Your Highness's body can't endure it.” After a while, I replied to Uncle Roy…

“It's alright, Uncle, I'll take care of myself. It's a big relief to me when you said I'm not going to die at a young age. So, I will see what I can do to keep being alive. I will find a way to stabilize my magical power as well as strengthen my physical body. I won't force myself, so you don't have to worry about me.”

I uttered the words with a heavy heart. I myself don't know anymore. Right now, what's in my mind is, I just want to survive. In my past life, don't think about enjoying life, even breathing was so much difficult to do. But now, I will slowly accept this life. I will live for me and your part as well, previous owner.

A tad after, I thanked Uncle Roy then he walked out of the room leaving only me with lyrine in it.

“Lyrine, I've something to ask you about”. I asked sternly in hope that she will answer honestly.

“ I'm not doubting you, I just want to know whether you're aware of me consuming poison before.”  Since Lyrine is the first person that reached out to me when I opened my eyes, I really want to trust her, as she seems to be a nice and trustworthy person. To my surprise, Lyrine suddenly knelt before me.

“Your Highness Princess! I, Lyrine Ellison, swear, on my family's honor, that I didn't know how Your Highness happened to consume such poison. I will investigate this matter and if I ever betray you, my life shall be yours, Your Highness Princess!”

It surprised me. I didn't expect her to act like this. But, I don't think I can trust her yet since I just met her today. I'll just go with the flow for now.

“Lyrine, you don't have to do this to prove yourself, rise please!” I walk hurriedly to Lyrine as I support her body to rise.

“Thank you Lyrine. Actually, my memory has been fuzzy since I woke up. Thus, there are so many things I need to organize. You have my trust”.

I replied with a smile on my face, trying to create a calm atmosphere between us. I still don't know anything about this place. If I want to survive till the end, I need to have an ally which I can fully trust.

“Thank you so much, Princess! I swear to investigate this case and I believe we should tell The King and Queen about this too”.

'The King and Queen are my parents, right?'

“No! You don't have to. I'll take care of this myself. I remind you, Lyrine, please don't tell a thing about this to them.”

Lyrine's face seems a bit troubled. After some time, she agreed to keep the poison case as a secret from anyone in the palace.

“Alright, Princess. I promised you to keep this a secret. But! If Princess's health worsens, I will need to disobey you and tell them everything.”  She said with a determination in her face.

“Okay, it's more than enough for now. You may leave. Thanks for everything, Lyrine”. I thanked her sincerely.

 “One more thing, tell the other maids to not come into my room for the time being. I need time to figure out things.”

Lyrine bowed respectfully before leaving my room. I should start rummaging the whole room, I guess. Maybe I will find a thing or two regarding the previous owner and her family.
