4. A strange meet.

Gulping the water down, Veer's eyes were locked on the

cookies kept in front of us. I whispered to Veer, "You take one, and I'm

telling your father about the last test you failed."

"Please, just a cookie," he whispered back.

"I dare you; do it and I'll dig up your

grave," I said with a glare.

"I'm never going to forgive you for this. Look at

the plate; it's filled up with delicious-looking cookies," he said with a

drooling face, looking at me.

"No, you are not. Just drink the water, and we

are leaving," I passed the verdict.

"Oh, don't be shy, children, have some

cookies," the house lady told us. Veer, without an ounce of hesitation,

took up a cookie and began eating. I looked like a fool, only looking at him.

"You know it is for you both; you can have some

too," she said again.

"No thanks, Ma'am, it's okay. I'm good," I

hesitated.

"Don't worry; it's safe. Look at your

friend," she said with a gentle smile on her face. I took a cookie.

"Eat it, Ambar; it's really tasty," Veer

said. I glared at him again, making him quiet.

"So, what are your names?" she asked.

"He is Veer, and I am Ambar," I answered.

"Nice names. Are you from around the town, or did

you come for delivering these letters?" she continued asking questions.

"We are from the town," I told her.

"Well, if you don't mind me asking, why do you

need to do this? I mean the delivery work," she said and continued,

"Where are your parents? You guys look really young."

"Ma'am, he lives here with his parents, and he is

not part of the job; he was just helping me today, so he made some mistakes.

But I am doing it for myself; I left my house quite a while ago, and my

parents..." With a pause, I said, "They don't care what happens to

me."

"It's you thinking that way," Veer

interrupted with his whispering sound.

"Did you say something, Veer?" I asked him,

almost crushing the cookie in my hand.

"No, nothing," he replied, and continued

munching the cookies.

"Why do you say that your parents... never mind.

You boys go to school or are homeschooled?" The lady showed a dilemma,

changing her question.

"We actually go to a nearby school, 'Well-word

Public School'; you might have heard about it," Veer said.

"Veer, we should leave; you're done with the

cookies, and I'm done with the letters. And you know we have to deliver the

correct letter to the correct people," I told Veer with a serious voice.

"And I'm really thankful to you, Ma'am, for

understanding our mistakes and helping us out," I thanked her.

"Oh, don't mention it. Just a mistake. Happens;

don't worry about it," she said again, with a gentle smile but with a

concerned face. "Hope to see you again."

We stood up and went back where we came in, and the

same sight we witnessed again. A beautiful angel, in a sounding slumber with a

peaceful face. It stopped my legs.

"Oh, her. She is my daughter. She is in the same

school as you guys," she spoke.

"I think it's time for us to leave," Veer

taunted.

"Yes, it is, my friend," I told him.

The lady stood behind us with a grin on her face. She

was a caring mother; it was obvious from the hospitality we experienced. And a

kind-hearted person as well; she offered two unknown boys the hospitality that

wasn't necessary.

We went out; she was standing at the door, looking at

us with a confused look. There was something she wasn't able to decide.

"Hey, you boy, what was your name, Ambar, yes

Ambar," she called for me.

"Yes, Ma'am," I spoke.

"I would like you to come here tonight; we will

have dinner together. If you are fine with that," she offered.

This was strange; why would she do this? Is this out

of pity? I wasn't able to understand. This was beyond my comprehension; why

would she call a stranger to her home? I did not know how to react to this

situation.... till then she added on, “Veer you can join in if you want to.”

Again, with no hesitation this boy said, “Sure Aunty

we both will join you tonight, thanks for inviting us.”

Aunty, when that happened? How is this greedy brat, is

still alive, anyone can abduct him saying ‘boy I have a candy for you.’ Bro,

don’t you know how to refuse to somethings.

“Ma’am, I……….” I wanted to deny her proposal of this

dinner but Veer closed my mouth and, with a pleading face “Let’s come here

tonight please, it’s been weeks, my father isn’t letting me eat some good

food.” “I’ll help you this entire week. Please Ambar.”

Disappointed with Veer, but that deal was kind of

good. “Okay, but only this once.” I said and we left.
