Chapter 6 - Being Married
Daniel escorted me down the aisle, right towards Kyre, and I stopped next to him.
My visibility was poor from wearing a veil, but I could tell that he was standing up straight, a perpetual straight expression across his face.
I was handed a quill, and I looked at the document in front of me.
It was a marriage certificate.
There was a priest standing in front of us, and seemingly, they wanted to sign before I decided to run away mid-ceremony.
I picked the quill up and wrote my new-assumed name, Adelaide Esteban.
Kyre had already signed his, and I straightened my back while I held the flowers tightly against my chest.
As the priest slowly began the ceremony, I noticed how empty the seats were.
Only Daniel was here to serve as a witness, but there was no extended family, absolutely no one.
Adelaide Esteban
What, sorry?
Priest
Do you take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband?
Adelaide Esteban
Yes, yes I do.
Suddenly, my breath hitched when he slowly lifted the veil up.
The anticipation and the nerves combined, creating this strange mix of thumping in my chest.
Eventually, once the veil was pulled over my head, I looked right at Kyre and smiled.
I wonder, does he find me appealing enough?
He didn't seem like he was going to, and before he turned away, I slipped my hands around the back of his neck and drew him closer.
His breath tickled my lips, causing me to start off feeling warm.
If he wasn't going to close the gap, then I was.
We lingered there for a moment, our eyes captured with each other's.
I could suddenly feel his fingertips gently move up my arm.
The strokes felt like electricity was racing through my body, causing it to throb.
I didn't move, I couldn't.
I was frozen in place, dying on anticipation.
I wanted to know what it feels like to kiss a man...
Is it just as amazing as everyone says it is?
Kyre Cryteare
Do you really want a monster to kiss you?
My breath hitched, the tension between us becoming redundant.
Adelaide Esteban
I never called you a monster. In my eyes, you simply aren't scary enough.
Adelaide Esteban
I've seen much worse.
Well, Adelaide has anyway. She's been suffering with emotional abuse since she was young. It's clear that the Count doesn't care for her at all.
He looked down at my lips, then back up to my eyes.
Was he finally going to kiss me?
He then turned and walked away, leaving me at the altar with Daniel.
Urgh, he ran away before I had the chance to kiss him myself!
Daniel Smith
Don't pay any mind to him, My Lady.
Daniel Smith
He was just feeling a little shy and embarrassed.
Adelaide Esteban
Shy? Embarrassed? Hardly. But thank you for trying to make me feel better.
Daniel Smith
Shall we return to the Cryteare Manor?
Oh right, that's my new home now.
Well, I wasn't attached to the other house. I lived in it for less than a few hours.
I wonder... if Count Esteban has such a big manor, what does the house of a Duke look like?
