Chapter 4
Hayley Martin. My dad's former patient. Heard a lot about her since childhood....
She was dad's favorite. Dareisay after me, she was probably the first candidate on the adoption options for dad. He cared for her way more than a patient, like a daughter.
Hayley this... Hayley that... All he talked was about her and it almost feels surreal that I'm finally meeting the legendary Hayley Martin.
I know everything about her past medical records, her therapy sessions and why she needed a therapy in the first place.
Her parents divorced when she was no more than 12 years old... It must be traumatic as a teenager.
I'm not stalker, Dad used to tell me about her everytime... He pitied her more than her parents.
Now sitting in front of me, she explained the problem of her recurring dreams that she was having over the past few days.
Hayley Martin
At first, it was like flashes of some people... I couldn't even make out who I'm seeing but the more I see the same... the more I'm starting to recognize them...
Recurring dreams is extremely common in this field. Over 60 to 75 percent percent of adults have recurring dreams, way more often in woman.
It is assumed to happen because of unresolved conflicts or stress in the person's life. Perhaps, a traumatic past which she can't seem to let go and its now visualizing itself in the form of dreams.
Hayley Martin
Its like I'm watching someone's life... Or my past... I know it sounds crazy...
She played with her figers, nervously after telling me her assumption. Watching her embarrassed face, my lips twitched in an smile but I quickly shaked it off, afraid she might think I'm laughing at her.
Its normal that people think weird dreams are perhaps your past life incidents. But most of the time the dreams are just a mere manipulation of our own thoughts.
What we watch, hear, smell, and think... it shapes the pictures we see in our dream the same way, the author creates their own imagination into books. I believe, dreams work in the same manner.
Andrew Smith
I don't think you're crazy...
A small chuckle left my lips as I said this, which made her smile lighy. That was the first time I saw her smile and it was beautiful, out of context, I know.
Picking up the cup of tea with my fingers, I took a sip. The strong, warm taste entertained my throat as I listened to her.
Andrew Smith
What did you dreamt the last time you slept?
She parted her lips to say something but fell short on words. Her eyebrows met in a slight frown, as she remembered about the dream.
She took deep breaths, her hands started shivering for some reasons.
Her breaths started shaking, chest heaving up and down. A long drop of tear rolled her eyes.
Without any second thought, I immediately went near her, kneeling down in front of her. I held her shoulder, shaking her lightly to pull her back from whatever daze she was in.
Hayley Martin
*gasped* Uhh... hahh..
She turned her head to me, her eyes closing in relief as she exhaled a deep breath she was holding.
Andrew Smith
Are you feeling fine?
Hayley Martin
Y-Yes... I... I'm fine...
Exhaling the breath, stucked in my throat. I moved to sat back on the chair which was placed beside her.
Hayley Martin
I'm sorry... I didn't mean to scare you...
Andrew Smith
Believe me, I've seen way worse.
She laughed on my silly joke, her eyes glistening with the unshed tears as she wiped it away.
Though what I said was true, I did see way worse conditions but... for the first time, it startled me.
She reached out to grab the tissue box at the same time as I did.
Our fingers brushed against each other, sending a weird sensation through my nerves.
She flinched at the little touch, taking her hand back with the speed of light. she glanced at me meekly as I passed her the tissue.
Andrew Smith
You're welcome.
