Chapter 4 - Disarray
I slowly opened my eyes and looked around.
Where am I? This isn't my bedroom...
I looked down and saw a jacket had been carefully placed over my shoulders.
It smelt so nice... like mint and pine wood.
Violet Gardenia
W-Wait a minute, why am I-
I gasped when I realised what had happened.
Did I really fall asleep in the director's office? What time is it?
I tried looking around for a clock when the door gently opened.
I don't know why, but I had the urge to pretend to sleep. I don't think that I can face the director right now...
I closed my eyes and pretended to sleep as I heard the light footsteps enter the door.
They walked forward and paused for a moment.
Suddenly, I felt the jacket over my front getting adjusted.
I flinched at the sudden surprise, and held my breath.
It's over, he's going to find out that I'm awake.
Warner Taylor
She's shivering. Better turn on the heating.
He thought that I was cold... seems like I'm safe so far.
Warner Taylor
I'll go ask Oliver to turn it up.
I heard him get up from the floor and head back towards the door.
Once it closed, I opened my eyes and blushed a bit.
Violet Gardenia
He's more considerate than I thought...
No, get it together Violet. Your priority right now is to get out of here. It's already-
I slept for the entire afternoon?
Oh no, what am I going to do? My work will be piled up so high, I'll never be ahead!
I got up and grabbed the jacket.
This jacket... was the one Director Taylor was wearing.
Did he.. give me his own jacket?
Wait, should you fold a jacket?
Should I leave a thank you note?
No, that will just make him remember my clumsiness even more!
I-I... need to get out of here!
I set the jacket over his desk and hesitated when I saw a pile of white paper and a pen.
It would be rude not to write something.
I grabbed a piece of paper and began writing.
"Thank you for the jacket, Director.
Please accept my sincere apologies for falling asleep. It wasn't my intention and I promise to catch up with all of the work required.
This will never happen again and to show my sincerity, I will write a self-reflection letter on not falling asleep at work.
-Manager Violet Gardenia"
I set the letter on top of the jacket and ran out of the door as soon as I could.
Perhaps my sincerity would be better if I dry-cleaned the jacket for him.
I picked up the letter and rewrote it, saying that I was going to dry-clean it, and took it while walking out.
I avoided the elevator and walked down the stairs until I finally reached the main lobby.
I walked until I was out of the building and began walking towards the main street to get a taxi home.
It's much too dangerous for a woman to be out at this hour, alone.
Unfortunately, I was right.
In the darkness, a shadow followed me closely, bidding his time until it was time to pounce.
