Return Good for Evil (2)

According to common sense, if sneezing meant that I got a cold, then coughing meant that she had a fever. She must have got it last night.

...

I was stunned for a moment. Then I shouted, "Thank god! You have been punished!"

Emilie coughed again, but she didn't talk to me. I did not know whether she was too lazy or too weak to argue.

"Get out," Emilie said to me coldly.

"You don't need to remind me. I like to watch you die! ... You deserve it..." I said as I strode out of her room.

I was about to take a bath and take a nap. But I heard intermittent coughs coming from Emilie's room.

I stopped on my way to the bathroom and suddenly started hesitating. I was the only man in the room and Emilie seemed to be helpless. Should I leave her alone?

"Fine, I should do something good after being a bastard for so long," I said to myself.

...

I put the towel on the sofa and walked to the kitchen. I found some vegetables and mushrooms and decided to cook soup for Emilie.

I was so sleepy that I almost couldn't open my eyes. I lit a cigarette to refresh myself and then looked at the soup in the pot.

The sunlight streamed in through the window. The wind gently blew the orchid hanging on the balcony. I was attracted. At this time, the world was charming, and the beautiful scene belonged to me... Perhaps compared to this beautiful morning, I did not really like the lavish life at night.

Emilie's cough woke me up. Then I realized that the soup had been boiling for quite a while. I turned off the gas stove, scooped a bowl of soup. Then I brought it to Emilie.

...

"I made some soup for you. Try it." I stood beside her bed and said to her.

"You don't need to be so kind."

"I am not being kind to you. I am just afraid that your coughing will affect my sleep!" I said unhappily.

Emilie replied, "You won't be able to hear that if you move out."

"If I do, no one will know if you die here... Stop talking nonsense. Hurry up and drink the soup!" As I spoke, I put down the bowl in my hand and lifted the pillow, then I rudely helped her get up.

I touched her forehead. It was really hot. I picked up the bowl on the bedside table and handed it to her. "Have the soup first."

Emilie didn't refuse anymore. She took the soup and finished it. Although she said nothing, her attitude was not as cold as before.

"After you finish it, you should take a rest. Leave the bowl and I will come back to collect it later. You're not that sick. Just take some medicine, and you will recover soon."

...

I was afraid that my cold would get worse, so I put on a thick coat before going out. I rarely got sick and I didn't have any medicine at home, so I had to go to the pharmacy to buy some antipyretics and cough medicine for Emilie.

It was too early and the pharmacy hadn't opened yet. After running several blocks, I found a clinic open. I bought the medicine and immediately went back. It was already half-past seven.

When I came back, Emilie had already fallen asleep. It seemed that she was having a sound sleep, so I didn't wake her up.

I found her phone in her bag, dialed my number, and left a note on her bedside table saying, "When you wake up, remember to take the medicine. Call me if you need anything. I already have your phone number. The jerk, Howard!"

I gently tucked her in and left her room.

...

I took a hot bath, but I didn't have time for breakfast. I got on the shuttle bus and began my work in a low mood.

I was so sleepy that I kept yawning. In the end, I rested my chin on one hand and fell asleep. It was hard for people to find out that I was sleeping.

As the wedding was approaching, Jason was busy and did not come to the company until ten o'clock. He woke me up and said, "Did you go to a club last night?"

Thinking of what happened last night, I was furious. But I shouldn't be angry at him. I yawned and said, "I didn't sleep well last night!"

Jason misunderstood what I meant. He said, "Well, you have to take care of yourself. Although you are still young, you can't fool around with women like this!"

I said, "We are well educated. Can you pay a little attention to your language?"

Jason smiled and asked, "Did you help me get the project?"

"Yes. I've put it on your computer."

Jason nodded and handed me a note. He said, "Howard, I will ask for the day off for you later. You need to go shopping with Isabel and buy all the things on the list."

"But you're the one who is going to get married, okay? Why do you ask me to do that?" I asked with confusion.

Jason sighed and said, "I have no choice. There are so many things to buy and Isabel can't carry them alone. I have to go to Sylin City to have a meeting with the staff of COSI. We need to talk about setting up a counter in our mall. I can't delay our company's business plan for a few months just because of my personal affairs, right?"

"Alright," I responded, but yawned again. I didn't get any sleep at all. How could I not be sleepy?

Jason patted my shoulder and said, "Thank you for your hard work. I will treat you to dinner tonight."

I waved to my hand and replied, "Go do what you need to do. I need to take a nap!"

"There's no time. Isabel is waiting for you downstairs!" Jason paused for a moment, then whispered beside my ear, "By the way... Jane sent an email. On the day of my wedding, there is a great chance that she will come back from abroad!"

I widened my eyes. I didn't feel sleepy anymore. It had been three years. Did she really decide to come back?
