Chapter 3 I am sick

It only took five years for her relationship with Sebastián to go from lovey-dovey to complete strangers.

Five years ago, just a day before their wedding, Sebastián’s parents were killed in a car crash, and he thought she was the perpetrator.

After that, her mother and uncle obtained all of the Alonso Family’s business in just a few days. The two largest families in Northcastle City were merged into one while Shirley’s uncle became the real head of the new family.

No matter how one looked at it, it was evident that the accident was planned and that the Marquezine Family was behind it as they were the final victor.

Everything happened too suddenly for Shirley to react. When she did, her relationship with Sebastián had already gone down the drain. He smashed the bottle of stars in front of her and stepped on them.

He pointed at her with his eyes completely red and yelled, “Shirley Marquezine! Get out of my sight this instant! I don’t want to see your face ever again!”

At that time, Sebastián was a 23-year-old man who had lost his parents and his company. He was left with nothing, while the 20-year-old Shirley found out that she was already pregnant.

Thinking that Sebastián would not accept the child in his current state, Shirley decided to secretly give birth to the baby in another country. Her plan at that time was to wait for Sebastián to calm down before explaining to him that she knew nothing of the accident and had no idea how things ended up that way.

Yet, the misfortune did not stop there. As soon as she gave birth to her son, he was diagnosed with a serious illness and had to stay in the ICU.

Without any other choice, she decided to head back to ask Sebastián for help, only to find another woman in his arms.

That woman was none other than Monica Sevilla.

Shirley heard that it was Monica who had accompanied him when he was at his lowest.

That Monica was like a ray of light in his dark world, and it was now her whom he was treating like his treasure.

And it was the same Monica who had encouraged him to start anew and expand his business to the same level as the Marquezine family’s in just two years.

Shirley had also heard that they were already preparing to get married.

The only problem was that she and Sebastián were legally married before the accident, so technically she was still Mrs. Alonso. As long as Shirley kept that title, then Monica could never marry Sebastián.

Being Mrs. Alonso for the past four years, Sebastián had kept threatening her to sign the divorce papers.

She kept telling herself that Sebastián really loved her in the past and that he would love her back once the accident was properly investigated. However, after four years of waiting, not only did Sebastián not love her back, she was even diagnosed with lung cancer.

A shock of pain suddenly struck her chest, and it interrupted her thoughts. It was followed up with a series of coughs.

“What’s wrong with you?” Sebastián asked when he saw her trembling.

That question managed to break through her mental defense, and tears began to pour out. “Sebastián, I… I have something important to tell you. I’m not good. I’m sick…”

“Don’t tell me you’re dying?” Sebastián laughed. “I’m going to celebrate if that’s true! If you die, then I don’t even need to divorce you, and I can marry Monica right away.”

His words instantly stopped Shirley from telling him the rest of the story.

“So, do you have anything to add?”

“…No” She shook her head.

It was then Sebastián suddenly noticed something and turned to look at the bedsheet.

Shirley tried to hide it and pretend that nothing was amiss, but Sebastián simply pushed her away and saw the blood on the bed.

“Is… this blood?”

Shirley bit her lip and gripped her fists tightly as she tried to endure the pain in her chest.

The man then turned to look at her scornfully. “What? You even went and got hymenorrhaphy for tonight?”
