"Here they are!" shouted Magy, approaching with Nara.
"But what nerve, Brennan," said the playful redhead, pushing Franck over to sit beside her.
"Hello, beautiful. Miss me?" Daniel kissed the top of Magaly's head.
Salvaged by the team captain, Jason sighed.
"Don't call me that, idiot."
"You could act better; I am your boyfriend, remember." He huffed and nudged Magaly, who reluctantly moved over to make space for him to sit.
"Damn, is that the only phrase you know, 'I'M YOUR BOYFRIEND?'" Jason emphasized, wrinkling his face.
"What's up with you?" asked Jack, caressing Nara's neck; the blond had approached the table seconds after Daniel sat down.
"Nothing." Bill interjected before his guy could speak—just that I'm a bit possessive, and Jason isn't used to it. Right, honey?" Bill took pleasure in making the boy between his legs uncomfortable, truly relishing his revenge.
"You..." Jason squinted his beautiful eyes and shook his head.
"Give me a kiss, baby?"
"Keep your stinky mouth away from Daniel."
"Magy, if you keep this up, we might not win the money, and I'm not going to beg you—"
The silence cut through Jason's self-flagellation; he looked up to see Magy holding Daniel's face as her tongue swept through the boy's mouth, who quickly took her by the nape to deepen the kiss.
"Get a room!" screamed Nara.
"Well, this idiot insisted," Magy said, pulling away from a smiling Daniel and wiping her lips.
"I'm definitely doing this more often," Daniel declared, standing before being hit by the cheerleader captain.
"Do we have practice today, or do I have an afternoon free to go out with Jack?" Nara stared straight at Magaly.
"See, they take it seriously," Magaly said, turning to face her boyfriend and sticking out her tongue.
"Did you hear? Eva couldn't stand the creepy freshman and dropped the bet." Jack sat beside the couple still sharing a chair.
"What the hell are you doing, Bill!" The scream echoed, and all eyes turned to the blonde standing by the table.
"Brithany, don't shout," Bill said, his voice calm as he wrapped his arm around Jason's neck, who looked bewildered at the person he wanted to strangle.
"You sick freak, get that innocent look off your face." Brithany pointed at Jason, who shook his head and looked away, unwilling to argue; it was embarrassing enough as it was.
"DO NOT IGNORE ME!" the blonde shouted, moving closer to the table.
"What’s wrong, Bri?" Jason asked.
"No, let me handle this, sweetheart," Bill stood, trying to shield his guy.
"Sweetheart?" the blonde asked incredulously. "You called him sweetheart, what the hell is wrong with you?"
"And you... don't call me Bri," she shoved the brunette, who caught her by the shoulders—"I'm not your friend, faggot!" she shouted at Jason.
"Hey dumbass, insult my cousin again, and I'll knock your teeth out one by one." Magaly, furious, lunged at the blonde, but Daniel held her back.
"No, Magy!" Jason yelled.
"Bri... Brithany, I don't know what's wrong with you, but we can talk it through," Jason said.
"You’re going to stick to that good boy act. We practically fed you at our house, and this is how you repay me?"
"Oh, my patience has its limits, you spoiled brat. I might work for your mother, but I won't let you humiliate me," Jason stood, his voice rising; Bill stared at him, silently urging him to calm down.
"Humiliate? And what do you think you're doing to me right now?"
"Bri, it was never official; I always told you that,"
"But he's a guy; can't you see?" The blonde pointed at Jason, unable to believe she was losing Bill to a boy.
The entire cafeteria watched in shock, the shouts even reaching the hallways. Brithany shoved Bill and lunged at Jason.
"You, you…" she said, hitting Jason's chest as he stood. "You damn faggot, you messed with my boyfriend."
Jason went pale, his words caught in his throat. A thousand thoughts flashed through his mind.
I'm wrecking a relationship over a stupid game.
Bill will hate me after this.
But why the hell did he expose so much?
"Stupid, what the hell are you talking about?" Nara interrupted, stepping between them.
"Don't get involved, bitch," the blonde shoved Nara into Jason's arms; he hurried her behind him and asked her to stay calm, he would handle it.
"Bri, I can explain, it's not what it seems..."
Screw this game—he thought.
"It's not what it seems? Do I look like an idiot to you?"
"I hate you, you damn faggot." Brithany threw her hand at Jason's face, who just closed his eyes, expecting a blow that never came.
"Don't you dare hit my boyfriend."
The raspy voice Jason loved sounded close, and he felt someone grab his waist. When he finally decided to open his eyes, he was in Bill's arms, holding him tightly, the pale face of the blonde showing a few tears, not to mention all the students who pulled out their phones to capture the scene.
"You can't do this to me, Bill, not for this," she said, pointing at Jason with disgust.
"What's wrong with you, bitch?" Magaly interjected, but Daniel pulled her back again, asking for silence.
"Bri, we've talked about this, now leave," Bill said calmly but firmly. Jason looked around, first at the brunette who seemed unfazed by the situation, and then at the blonde who watched him with inhuman hatred.
"This must be a joke, or a damn nightmare."
Jason tried to comprehend the situation, his eyes in disbelief.
"You're going to pay for this," she pointed at Jason and ran off, followed by her friends.
"Are you okay, sweetie?" Bill asked, caressing Jason's face. The boy looked at him as if he'd seen a ghost.
Bill leaned in and placed a short kiss on his lips, then whispered, "You don't have to be jealous anymore; I’m all yours."
Damn it—Jason muttered beneath his breath, shaking his head while a sigh escaped his lips.
Cell phones were on the brink of memory overflow, from photos to videos taken of the scene.
"Wow, that was epic," Frank said, applauding with Cameron.
"Yeah, they sure know how to act," Jack murmured, while Bill couldn't stop admiring Jason's eyes.
"Jason, Jason."
"Huh?" Magaly's voice snapped him out of it, and he turned to look at her.
"What the hell just happened?"
"I don't have a damn clue," Jason said, resting his hands on Bill's solid chest before pushing him away to sit down.
Bill laughed at the sight of Magaly's blushing cousin.
Wanted to play with fire, now deal with it—he thought.
"That bad mood this morning, was it because you had to break up with Bri?" Daniel asked.
"What, no... Just that my plans were ruined this morning by someone who grabbed something and just ran," he said, looking at Jason, who swallowed hard, looking at his plate of rice.
"I don't understand?"
"Never mind, I solved it."
"Is it true, Jason?" Nara asked.
"What now?"
"What Bri said, that you're..."
"Are you an idiot or something?" Magy yelled, cutting in. "Can't you see it was Bill's plan to make everyone believe their relationship; my cousin's not gay, you numbskull."
"Oh, alright, sorry."
"You surprise me, Bill. That day at the party you didn't want to play, and today you just kiss poor Jason without warning in front of the whole school."
"Poor?" Bill asked, looking at a nervously lip-biting Jason. "Well, if I'm going to play, I'll do it like I do on the field; give it my all. After all, it's only thirty days, and the money will be ours. Right, sweetheart?" Bill played with Jason's curly hair.
"It's just a game, damn that hurts."
"Did I miss something?" Frank asked.
"Nothing, baby, just eat—" Nara soothed Frank's face, who was drooling over the redhead, and as if under a spell, he forgot he asked anything.
The bell rang, and everyone stood to attend the last class. Jason picked up his stuff and, before leaving, Bill grabbed his hand.
"Come on, I'll take you to class."
"You're crazy, Bill, let go."
"Now you're shy? Earlier on the street, you seemed to have forgotten about the people passing by."
"Okay, I get it, I'm sorry. I just wanted to tease you, now let me go."
Jason always valued his independence; he hated being forced to do something he didn't want to do, and although he liked Bill, he wouldn't allow himself to feel anything more; he was already crazy about the brunette, but there was no harm in lying to himself. He was ready to play, but he would set the terms.
"I don't want to; I'll go with you."
"No," Jason said, pressing his teeth together in irritation.
"I said I'm going with you, and that's final."
"And I said no, is that clear?" Jason freed his hand and walked off towards class, annoyed.
"This is going to be fun," Bill whispered, eyeing the well-defined behind of his guy.
