Chapter 2 - Little Brother
I walked home that night, the card that the assistant had given me weighing in my hand as I read it over and over again.
Castella Corporation
CEO Liam Castella
Num.: XXX XXX XX XX
Working Hours: Monday-Friday 9AM-5PM
Is this some sort of prank? Accountant for one of the biggest company/corporation out there?
And here I thought they'd prefer to hire a man for accounting.
After all, it's common knowledge that there are hardly any women who work for the Castella Corporation. It's 90% men.
And how did they even hear about me? I wasn't an attraction in university. Everyone just saw me as the bratty kid who got away with not studying for her finals.
The truth is, I'm a certified genius with a 169 IQ.
Being a human calculator with photographic memory, me and accounts get on like a house on fire.
Why is a genius working for a declining company? Good question. If I knew the answer to that, I'd truly feel like a genius.
But this... this is a second chance.
A chance to build a future, make something of myself.
A chance for my brothers too.
Walking into my crusty apartment, I heard the sound of a bowl shattering against the floor.
I rushed towards the kitchen, only to find my younger twin brother on the ground, picking up shards of glass from the bowl of popcorn he had gotten himself.
Landon Rivers
Grace, you're home!
Grace Rivers
Hey, don't pick up the shards with your bare hands!
Grace Rivers
Do you want to take a trip to the hospital tonight?
I set down the Castella Corporation's card onto the countertop and helped my younger brother clean up his mess.
Landon Rivers
I'm sorry... I'm just a bother to you, aren't I?
Ever since I graduated early from university, I've been working extremely hard to support Landon and me.
No matter what terribly, crappy place my work is, it pays enough to get him through his redo classes at school.
He was forced to repeat a year after a certain... incident occurred.
One of which resulted in two boys stuck in hospital and a hefty bill which almost swallowed up half of the money that Mother and Father had left us before they ran away.
Grace Rivers
You're not a bother. You're my brother and my identical twin.
Grace Rivers
Besides, everyone makes mistakes.
Grace Rivers
As long as you try and be more careful next time.
I continued to pick up the shards of glass from the bowl while his eyes wandered towards the card that was sitting on the counter top.
Landon Rivers
Castella Corporation.
Landon Rivers
Don't they branch out in different sectors of business?
I turned towards him, impressed.
Grace Rivers
Where did you learn that?
Landon Rivers
Modern Business.
Landon Rivers
I'm trying to take as many courses possible.
And ever since that incident, I've never been called in once and his grades have suddenly spiked.
Landon Rivers
But why do you have a personal card from the Castella Corporation?
Grace Rivers
How did you know it was personal?
He flicked the card with his fingers.
Landon Rivers
The paper is good quality, as well as the golden border around the black card.
Landon Rivers
It reeks privilege.
Grace Rivers
I got offered a job.
Landon Rivers
A job? What sort of job?
Grace Rivers
As their new accountant.
I couldn't help but grin.
Grace Rivers
Little Brother, our fortune might turn around just yet.
