Yuri had one rule: She tells no one.
Until Kaizo.
---
[2:14 AM - Yuri's bedroom]
Yuri:Kaizo, are you awake?
Kaizo: It's 2 AM. Of course I'm awake. I have insomnia and you have bad decisions. What happened?
Yuri: I wasn't supposed to tell anyone this but I'm telling you anyway.
Kaizo: Oh god. That's my favorite sentence. Spill.
Yuri: I texted him.
Kaizo: HIM him? Boss him?
Yuri: Yeah.
Kaizo: YURI!
Yuri: I know! I know I'm supposed to be mature and practical and "healing" and whatever. But I was full, I had beer, and it was 2 AM and my brain said "you know what would fix this? Making a terrible decision."
Kaizo: And what did you say?
Yuri: The whole letter. The grieving part. The "why now why are you so late" part. The warning part that if I have him I won't let him go ever again.
Kaizo:You sent THE letter? The one we said we would never send unless we were 80 and dying and had nothing to lose?
Yuri: We are 80 emotionally! We're tired!
Kaizo: What did he say??
Yuri: He said "Can I call you?"
Kaizo: AND DID YOU ANSWER?
Yuri: No. I panicked and threw my phone under my pillow like it was on fire.
Kaizo: YURI!!!
Yuri: I know! I'm an idiot! That's why I'm telling you. You're the only person I can tell this to without being judged. Or at least you judge me but you still stay.
Kaizo: Of course I stay. I'm your "i wasn't supposed to tell anyone this but i'm telling you anyway" bestie. It's literally my job description.
Yuri: Does this make me desperate?
Kaizo: No. It makes you human. You loved that idiot for years. Of course you're going to have a 2 AM relapse. If you didn't, I'd think you were a robot.
Yuri: But I said I was obsessed with him. Who says that?
Kaizo: A girl who is tired of pretending she isn't. And honestly? It's hot. It's honest. If a man can't handle a woman saying "if you're mine I won't ever let you go," then he doesn't deserve you. That's wifey energy, not desperate energy.
Yuri: You always make me feel better about my bad decisions.
Kaizo: Because your bad decisions are my favorite stories. And also because I know you. If you didn't still feel something, you wouldn't have bothered. You ended a good relationship just because you couldn't forget him. That says everything.
Yuri: So what do I do now? He wants to call.
Kaizo: You call him back tomorrow. When you're sober, not full, and not sleep-deprived for 3 days in a row. And you say it again, but looking pretty and rested. Let him hear the mature woman version, not the 2 AM beer version.
Yuri: What if he doesn't like the mature version either?
Kaizo:Then we block him, drink again, and I let you cut his hair in my imagination. But Yuri? I have a feeling he will.
Yuri: Why?
Kaizo: Because no one waits two years to come back if they don't mean it. And no one writes a letter at 2 AM if they don't mean it. You both are just bad at timing. But maybe this time, your bad timing finally aligned.
Yuri: Thanks for being my person.
Kaizo: Always. Now go to sleep before you text him again. And give me your phone. I'm putting it on airplane mode.
Yuri: You can't. What if he calls?
Kaizo: Exactly. He will. And tomorrow, you'll be ready to answer.
The end
