Chapter 5: A Reason To Start

Vren suddenly floats from drowning into a deep water of dam. The flow of water brought him to the side, a small sidewalk near the wall. And there he laid, unconscious. He woke up inside the hospital, with his parents waiting for him to be awaken.

"Vren! You're awake. Why is this happening to you, my son?", his mother hugged him so tight and have her tears falling.

"G-Gretta... Where is she, Mom?", Vren asked her mother about Gretta.

"Calm down, my son..... She's dead. We recovered her body in the dam, tied on a giant stone. Do you remember what happened?", his father asked him. His father is known as General Manlansag, police chief in Metro Manila.

Vren's tears fell from his one eye. "There's something hit my head that got me blacked out. As I wake up, I saw them messing with her... I saw how they forceful molested her body..... She even made me calm so that they won't hurt me anymore... I can't do anything to save her... I'm useless....", he sadly stated.

"And what happened next?", his father asked.

"They tied our bodies on a stone. They first thrown Gretta into dam, then me...", Vren answered.

"Hmmm, I suspected that you were saved because the rope that is used to tie you snapped, just like what we recovered, then the water flow brought to the side of the dam. We saw a skirt floating, it was from your school. We recovered that and got the I.D. Card of Gretta in its pocket. We thought that you were playing nearside the dam then playfully thought to swim but got drowned because of water current. We decided to call divers to recover Gretta but they found her tied on a giant stone. They cut the rope and got her body recovered. As of now, she's under autopsy.", his father explained.

Vren suddenly cried. He can't accept the death of his girlfriend. "Why?! Why does it have to be her?! Why can't it just be me?!", he mourned.

"Don't worry, son. We're setting an operation to solve the case. Vren, I'm sorry for what happened... Have a courage in your heart. You survived, it has a reason. Gretta won't let you feel so sad and put the blame on yourself. You must live for her, Vren. You must take care of your life for her.", his father said.

Until now, the case is still unsolve. Those who have done abomination to Gretta and Vren acted quickly. They killed the CCTV Operators around the dam and erased the records. And the witnesses appearing for the case suddenly disappear.

The culprits are still haven't identified so Vren is forced to act alone and find those who killed Gretta. He practiced fighting with the help of Tandang Omeng, a doctor and maker of ammunition that he sells at the Black Market that he met around their neighborhood. Tandang Omeng also made Vren's weapons such as guns, knives and swords. In return, Vren always protects Tandang Omeng from its opponents intentionally.

Since then, Vren has been killing syndicates, he's thinking that those men are part of some syndicate group around Metro Manila. Vren also wants to kill in places where sins are blatantly committed because his thirst is quenched every time he gets a sinful soul. He also realized that the place he had chosen to attack was not far from the people who killed Gretta because the ghost is always pointing its finger to where he must kill. He believes that she drove them towards those men. He believes that at any time he can encounter them in such surroundings.
