CHAPTER 5

Bryan went out of the hotel room in a confused state. He was like a body without a soul. Empty and meaningless. He couldn't cry no more. He never could cry anyway, boys don't cry said his drunken father once.

Bryan once again thought of Katherine. He longed to hear her voice, to feel the smoothness of her skin if only once. Bryan took out his phone and called Katherine but she didn't answer. He tried and tried again until eventually she answered him but what she said felt like salt to the wound.

"I'm married now, Bryan. Please leave me alone," she said shortly and then hang up.

Bryan threw his phone angrily and walked like a bull that have lost its mind. He bumped into everyone and cursed at everyone. He didn't have any place he meant to go. He just walked.

The neon lights of a convenient store attracted Bryan. The lights spoke of alcohol. The memories of him and his friends went into this kind of store and stealing booze playing in his memories now. He went inside and bought 2 bottles of vodka and another 2 bottles of gin. He thought maybe he should add sleeping pills while he at it. So he went across the street to a pharmacy and bought over the counter sleeping pills.

Bryan went back to his dingy apartment and locked himself in. He has to kill himself tonight because in a moment the landlord would come knocking in his door demanding rent money. Joke on you landlord because you'll be having a dead body tomorrow! Bryan laughed as he imagined the look on the landlord's face when he found Bryan dead. No one would want to rent this room again, Bryan laughed heartily.

He turned on the radio and sat on the dining table near his bed. He drank the vodka out of the bottle like he was drinking water. Bryan took out a bunch of sleeping pills into his hands and without even thinking put them all in his mouth. More vodka to wash the drugs furhter into his body.

Whether it was from the booze or the sleeping pills finally working, Bryan felt his eyes swollen and were very hard to kept open. His head felt empty and light that he didn't feel his head bang on the table. The sound of the radio seemed to have gone far away mix with a sound of knocking on his door. The last thing he heard was a song that played on the radio "Love Was My Alibi" and then darkness.

Bryan woke up with incredibly sore throat and headache so bad that he screamed when he was fully conscious. The nurses and the doctor attended him and gave him some more drugs to help him calm down.

Bryan wasn't dead. He was almost died but his landlord found him first and called an ambulance. He was knocked out in coma for 2 days before awaken.

What Bryan didn't know is that Sylvia was there the next day. She heard the news from gossiping mouth at Bryan's office. How did they know, I have no idea. Sylvia paid for Bryan's hospital fee and even hired the best psychiatrist to deal with Bryan. Sylvia felt really guilty about what happened but still refused to see Bryan.

So Bryan was all alone in the hospital. No one visited him, no one cared about him. He didn't want to meet anyone anyway, so he didn't even care to call his friends.

"I recommend Bryan to be sent to rehab," said doctor Eddie Emerson, the psychiatrist that treated Bryan at the hospital.

He was talking to Sylvia in his office. She came because the doctor asked her to. She was unknowingly - and she didn't even want to -  has became Byan's emergency contact.

"Do whatever you need, doctor. But please, don't call me again. I'm in a middle of a messy divorce. I can't even take care of myself nowadays," said Sylvia nonchalantly and left. She didn't even visit Bryan.

However, Sylvia, whether she wanted or not has to think about Bryan and her guilt for causing him to try and kill himself. Oh, Bryan, what a love hunger man you are, thought Sylvia. The worst part was, Bryan fell in love with wrong women all the time! Speaking of women, one loyal and kind woman whom Sylvia knew for sure had been in love with Bryan for so long now came to her thoughts.

Sherly! That was it! Sylvia had heard from Hannah - the backstabbing b**** from Bryan's group of 5 - the story of how Shirley was so in love with Bryan and even went far to admitted it to him but he turned her down and that was what broke their friendship. Now she had moved to another town. Sylvia knew where and Sylvia also knew in that town there was a rehabilitation center. Perfect!

That afternoon, Sylvia, despite telling the doctor to stop calling her, picked up her phone to call doctor Eddie.

"Oh, Mrs. Waldorf, but we have perfectly fine rehabilitation center here," said the doctor right after Sylvia done telling him about her plan.

"I know, but in that town, Bryan will soon be well. I know it! You see doctor, there is someone there that could cure Bryan!"

"Mrs. Waldorf, please! I don't think it's a good idea for Bryan to be dating again anytime soon,"

However Sylvia was very persistent that eventually the doctor only sighed and agreed with her.

By the end of the week, Bryan was transported to another town, closer to Shirley, the one woman who could love Bryan despite everything or so Sylvia thought.

Unknown to Sylvia that her action would destroyed Shirley's life that she has been building for years after her heart break to Bryan.
