The girl who said nothing

The party was held for the people of the underworld to welcome and appreciate the leader of the mafia.

People respected him a lot, not because they honestly liked him but they actually feared him. His aura was enough to make people shudder in fear.

Kai was always the leader of the underworld and after his father retired from his position, he officially got the title of the king.

KAI... the guy that led his people rise in his time of reign, the guy whose statement became the order for the people of the city.

Now he was going to be officially accepted as the one and only commander. The weather was quite chilly and he wanted this night to end as fast as possible.

His two trusted people...his right and left hand, Marco and Ramiel were behind him as he was approaching the venue.

Suddenly he saw a little girl running aimlessly, towards the exit and behind her was a man in his thirties who looked like twice her age.

Kai never interfered in other's matters and he continued to do so until she bumped into his chest.

She lost her balance and her knees wobbled due to running. He grabbed her elbow unknowingly to make her stand properly and looked at her. There was no gap left between their bodies but there was no intimate tension between them either. He had no idea why he grabbed her like that.

She was trembling with fear and the chilly weather with her barely coverable clothes made it worse for her to breathe.

Kai couldn't keep his eyes from her but she didn't look up. She just stood against his chest, her fingers clutching his shirt tightly and her eyes filled with tears whispering pleas for help again and again.

After looking at her condition, his eyes looked at the man who was standing like a statue with pure shock plastered on his face. He couldn't believe that the king was standing in front of him.

He bowed his head in respect and said, "King....sorry for the inconvenience... I'll take her now."

He approached the girl and was about to grab her elbow from behind, suddenly Kai wrapped his hand around her and said just one word.

"DON'T."

The man couldn't understand why would king would save a stranger like that but he obeyed his orders and retreated his hand back and scurried off.

She was still holding onto his shirt like a kid and wouldn't let go for a second.

"What to do with her..king?", Marco said by looking at the girl.

Kai said nothing as he observed the girl in detail. He was sure that either she was forced to do something she didn't want to or she was trapped in this underworld without her knowing.

He immediately took off the fur coat and draped it over her shoulders. Then she opened her eyes and looked at him for the first time.

His blue eyes were sharp but held a sense of protection for her. She was the first one who didn't bow at him or called him king.

"Thankyou", the first word that came out of her mouth was gratitude for him and her eyes looked at him with pure love and respect.

He held her gaze and felt her fingers loosened on his shirt. He was about to ask her name but she passed out in his arms, leaving him with his countless questions and confused feelings.
