Jessica 2005 (Mixed Feelings)

Jess stood in front of the desk, her eyes darting around the room looking for an exit, she couldn't get back out of the door the secretary was still stood in the door way waiting for the boss to dismiss her. Jumping out of the window was not possible, it was a very long way to the bottom. The only way to get out of the situation would be to end the interview as quickly as possible, she moved towards the desk holding out her hand in greeting.

'Hello Mr White, Thankyou for your time.'

The secretary left closing the door behind her. Jess suddenly felt very alone.

'Take a seat Jess, this is just a informal chat.'

Jess shuffled her feet, nervously wondering what on earth this man was doing in front of her after all this time, and how could she still be so attracted to the bastard even after everything that happened.

'Please sit down, Miss Walker!' he growled, it was so commanding she found herself sitting before her brain had even engaged with the demand enough for her to resist.

She felt the panic rising in her chest, unsure of what was going to happen next. She kept her head down avoiding eye contact with him as much as possible. She could see how much Jake looked like him and it hurt her to imagine what the might of been like together.

Dean spoke to her again waking her from her thoughts.

'Jess I have read through your C.V. and reviewed your performance during the graduate programme interviews. I would like to offer you a junior position here at head office. It is better than the graduate position and offers a more comprehensive package of benefits, one of them being a better rate of pay.'

She still refused to look up at him from across the Desk, he continued to talk

'You will have to work with me and the other executives, you will need to take business trips occasionally. '

She lifted her head up and looked him directly in the eyes

'Then I can not take this job, I was looking for something less committed like a small management role, I have to be home for my son. I am sure you appreciate how important family is.'

She hoped that by shutting him down as quickly as possible she would be able to leave. She would just look for a different job, there had been no guarantee that she would of gotten a place on the graduate program anyway.

'I will pay you double the standard rate of a junior. You can be flexible with your hours, beacause of your Son. You will still need to accompany me or other executives on business trips. The company will support you with extra childcare should you need it. '

Twice the pay of a junior executive was difficult for Jess to refuse. So she agreed to the terms, she still felt wary of Dean and not sure of herself, how would she ever be able to stay in control of her emotions. Also if he ever saw Jake, he would know instantly that he was his Son, there was no mistaking who the child took after in the looks department.

Dean rose from behind the desk and moved foward towards her. he leaned against the desk right next to where she was sat, he held out his hand to shake hers, she stood looking him definitely in to his eyes and took his hand, she felt the same electricity she had years ago just from touching his hand. She felt herself being pulled towards him, they where soon close enough to kiss.

Jess pushed herself away from him

'I can't forgive you that easily, you left me waiting for you. I was alone. I can't just let that go. You promised that you would be there, yet you chose her. It might have just been a summer fling for you, but I loved you even if it was only briefly. If I am going to work for you then it has to stay in the past. It's a clean slate. It's been to long and we are different people.'

She felt Dean release her hand. and he spoke

'Just for the record Jessica, I never chose her over you. I chose my child over both of you.'

'What? she was pregnant ? ' Jess was genuinely surprised by what Dean had said

'No she had had the child, it was revealed to me 1/2 an hour before I was due to meet you, I found out that I had a daughter a six month old daughter. As you can imagine I was not in any frame of mind to deal with anyone. By the time I had recovered from the shock, you where refusing to take my calls or speak to me. So I moved on, I married her and started to raise my daughter. Except a year later I came home early to find my wife in bed with another man. Turned out that daughter that I chose wasn't mine. She was someon elses and that I was the stupid meal ticket. So yeah I made a great choice.' he spat sarcastically towards her, Jess was taken aback and her thoughts begun to rapidly spiral in to a massive ball of guilt.

'Well you moved on quickly didn't you, didn't think to much about me for long. did you? getting yourself knocked up by some random guy, really mature no wonder you never wanted to answer my calls you where too busy screwing anything that moved.'

Jess felt disgusted with the attitude of the man in front of her, time had definitely changed and become cynical.

'Do you know what Dean' she said quietly

'stuff your job up your arse, I'll find another one with a boss who is less of a prick! Nice catching up with you'

and with that she stormed out of his office slamming the door. The snotty receptionist raised her eyebrows in disdain as If Jess had just committed the crime of the century.

Dean came marching out of his office, his face was red with anguish. Jess began to panic and pressing the elevator button erratically, the door opened and she got on it closed just as Dean reached elevator. She let out a sigh of relief as it begun it's journey down to the ground floor. At this point she realised that she had left her coat and her handbag in his office. She decided that they could stay there, everything could be replaced.

When Jess got home, her Mum was in the kitchen making Jake some dinner and her dad was sat on the floor with Jake constructing a lego village. Her mum looked up at her and knew straight away that something was wrong with her daughter.

'What's happened Jess? you only get that look when somebody has upset you.'

she looked at her mum stood in her kitchen and through tears mumbled

'He was there mum, He was there.'
