Chapter 4: Magic

Taya's POV

After I skipped away from Charlie and Thomas to get to the grand masters I showed them the way and we started walking at a speed slightly above average walking speed. Finally when we reached the intersection between Serenity Path and the main path I stopped everybody and told them to be quiet. I placed my hand onto a tree near the clearing and followed through the routes until I could see the group of bandits, which were about half a mile away.

I took my hand off the tree and turned back to the group, "They'll be here in about 15 minutes at the speed their going so we'd better hurry!" I commanded the group into sections and did what I knew I'd have to do if I wanted this to work out. I sat down on the ground dug my hands into the earth and called on my power, making it work in tandem with the natural power of nature. First I had to start building up my power which to others felt like a breeze with the scent of lavender. Then I started to let grass spring from the ground surrounding the 10 people I told to stand in place. Keeping my eyes closed I then started to grow the trees. Starting with connecting the roots from my new trees to the already existing native trees of this area. It took 2 or 3 minutes to connect the roots but then I could finally start to let the stump of the trees grow from the ground. After feeling the stump break through the surface of the ground I started to build the tree trunk. After about 3 feet I could my power depleting and had to dig my fingers in deeper to get more help from the land. I built it a couple more feet up so it could stand a little below the rest of the trees, then I started to let branches grow from the trunk making it grow taller. Again I felt power deplete and had to dig my hands even deeper, but when I couldn't feel any more power being offered to me by the land I almost collapsed from exhaustion when a set hands fell on my shoulders and I felt my power burgeoning. I then sent the power to the trees, finished growing the branches, added leaves, and let the trees grow into each other as if they've been growing together for years. Once I felt that the trees were able to to survive with the help of the land and not me anymore, I released my power and felt a huge surge of backlash from the power borrowed from the land. The power being taken out of me immediately got replenished by the man behind me by force, eliciting a groan of minor pain from him. After my power seemed replenished the man took his hands off me and back a few steps away. I stretched out my legs and tried to stand up, but before I could stand up fully, darkness clouded my vision and I fell into a deep, exhausted sleep.

Thomas' POV

I didn't mean to give her so much power, I already knew it'd have a backlash after I stopped letting my power run through her but I never expected that'd she's be so tired that she'd pass out. I had stepped back to let her power do the rest for her recovery and hoped that her magic would protect her from the backlash of mine, but I hadn't realized that she'd Completely depleted her magic reserves. Taya had tried to stand up but started swaying, then all of a sudden she just collapsed. To everyone it probably looked like she was standing and fell in a split second but to me it was all in slow motion. As soon as I saw her sway I had already taken a couple steps towards her, but when she started falling I took the last 3 steps in a flash and caught her head before it could hit the ground. Picking her up princess style I followed my nose and started walking towards the concentrated medicinal lake that I could scent out and sense. Once I found the lake I put up a basic barrier around to make sure the rest of the guild didn't follow. I took her shoes and dress off and placed her in the the water before my instincts took control. After about 5 minutes of her sleeping in the water and me warming her with handfuls of water she finally started to come to. Her eyes fluttered opened and after blinking a couple times and taking in her surroundings she finally turned her head and saw me. She jumped a foot out of the water letting out a small squeal, and landed back in it with a huge splash soaking me along with the land around us.

"Well, if your calm now." I said smirking a little because even with her dark complexion I could still see a slight blush on her cheeks. "Mind if I join you in the water? My clothes kind of got soaked during your kitten hop." I grinned and before she could answer, kicked off my shoes pulled of my sack and shirt and backed up a few steps. "Might wanna back up Kitten, or you'll get splashed more than I did."

She yelped when I started running towards the water. "W-wait a sec. Can't you just slide in without making such a problem please?" Taya begged.

I chuckled at her attempt to persuade me and jumped into the water. She yelped again and tried swimming away to put distance between us, but before she could get far I dived under jumped off the bottom of the lake, and launched myself straight at her. Grabbing her around the waist I pulled her into me and swam back to the lake shore. She kept wiggling and trying to break free so before I lost my grip on her I leaned my head forward and whispered into her ear, "If you don't stop wiggling things are going to happen and the kiss your about to get will be the least of you worries."

Just then we got to the shore and I turned her around to face me letting her only sit half a foot in front of me. "W-what kiss? Haven't your ever heard of personal space?" Taya said this in a commanding tone but her voice was quavering throughout both questions.

I leaned in stopping an inch from her face, listening to her heart beat wildly and her breath catch. Finally I leaned in only meaning to do a quick peck to joke with her, but as soon as our lips touched a electric current ran through my body and I automatically wanted to touch her more. Before I went to far and let my other half take control I pulled away and looked into her eyes trying to gauge her reaction. I gasped when I saw her eyes filled with not only surprise but lust. So much lust that I had to look away before I got dragged back into the vortex of no control. Figuring out what was happening between me and Taya was gonna take a long time.
