Beyond Paradise
It was raining heavily that day, the droplets pummeling my face as I lay still. Gazing off into the distance, I caught a glimpse of what I could only describe as…
I sit at my desk beside the window, hearing my teacher drone on an on. He clearly hadn't realized that half of his class was either daydreaming or asleep.
Just like every other day.
I gaze out the window onto the school courtyard. Of course, only seeing trees, some grass, and a bird or two. I turn back to complete the last problem written on the board, then I turn back to the window. Again. To stare at the same courtyard. The same trees, and grass, and the same bird or two.
Of course, until I saw her.
Out of the corner of my eye, I see a beautiful girl. She was just dancing in the pouring, pummeling rain. I turned my head over to see her again, but she had already gone.
(Bell Ringing)
Teacher: "Okay class! Make sure you complete page five of your math book, and have a wonderful afternoon!"
Of course she's gone. It is just a regular Monday afternoon.
Though, lucky for me, it was now the end of the day. So, to satiate my curiosity, I grab my books and bag and sprinted down the stairs. I ran past the second and then first floor, then finally into the courtyard.
Of course nothing was there, except for the grass and trees and…
Shit!
I forgot my umbrella, and now the classroom door is locked. Well, since I'm already wet I should just continue my walk home.
Walking past the speeding cars and chatting people I ponder to myself:
"How many people are in love?"
"If the world ended tomorrow, who would they hold close?"
Lost in my thoughts, I almost miss the path towards my favorite garden. Whether or not it rains I need to stop by to feed Signis, she's a stray cat I met while passing by.
Finally at the entrance, I leave food for Signis. I then raise my head to see her.
Facing away from me, she danced joyfully in the rain. She clearly hadn't noticed me. I could see her long black hair whip through the rain as she spun and leaped. As she turned again, I caught a glimpse of her ocean blue eyes shine through the rain.
Startled, she starts to run away. Chasing after her I stretch my hand out to grab her, but she's already vanished. And in her place, a pile of cherry blossoms. Where did she go?
Stunned for a few moments, I then decided to go home. If I stay too long I'll be late, let alone catch a cold.
When I got home my mother was of course upset.
"Kokishi! Why are you so late?!" She exclaimed.
"And did you forget your umbrella? You're soaking wet, go and change."
So I went upstairs to shower, then I changed into dry clothes and went to bed.
I just lay there awake, in bed just wondering if I'll ever see her again.
