Caroline
was confused. “Why did he just leave like that?” After she thought about
this for a few seconds, she went to her closet to get dressed. Liam, in his room
decided to take a shower. Thirty minutes later, he got out put on his black pajamas
and went to sleep.
“Look at
them together. Aren’t they adorable?” Elizabeth agreed, “yes, they are quite
adorable.” Gabriella spoke, “Elizabeth, we have been friends for years, our
children are even best friends. I can’t help but dream that one day, those two
will get married.”
“What
are you two talking about?” Dante interrupted as he walked inside the living
room with Victor. “Oh, I was just telling Elizabeth how great it would be if
one day, Liam and Caroline got married.” Dante looked at Victor and agreed,
“you’re right, dear. It would be great if Caroline and Liam got married one
day.” Victor looked at the children playing in front of them and frowned. “What
have I done? Why did I agree to such a risky bet?” He wondered. “Look, Caroline.
This is a C, and this is an E and this is a G… and with that you make: a C
Major chord,” Liam spoke.
“Aren’t
they just so adorable? look at Liam teaching Caroline how to play the piano.”
Dante agreed with Gabriella, “you’re right, they are quite adorable.” Victor
looked at his wristwatch and said, “well, it’s getting late. We better get
going.” He had been dreading the time to leave. He felt that the air there was
suffocating him. Elizabeth glanced at Victor and stood up from the sofa. She
walked over to the piano and crouched down. “Did you guys have fun with your
little play date?”
“Yes!”
Elizabeth rubbed Liam’s hair. “I’m glad, but I’m afraid we must leave.”
Caroline looked at her mother with puppy eyes and softly asked, “mommy, can we
come here again tomorrow?”
“Well,
I’m not sure. We have to ask Gabriella and Dante first. But right now, we have
to leave. It’s almost time for your bedtime… Now, say goodbye to Liam.”
Caroline hugged Liam and spoke, “goodbye, Liam.”
“Goodbye,
Caroline.” Before leaving, Caroline placed a sweet kiss on Liam’s check. As she
walked away while holding her mother’s hand, she waved Liam goodbye. After they
said goodbye to Dante and Gabriella, Victor drove to Elizabeth’s apartment.
In
Elizabeth’s apartment, she walked out of Caroline’s room and told Victor, “she
is already sleeping. You can go now.”
“Wait…
there is something I have to tell you…” Victor planned to tell Elizabeth about
his deal with Dante. He missed Caroline’s birthday because he didn’t want to
see Dante Sabbatini, but today he went to his penthouse with Elizabeth to
ensure he wouldn’t tell Elizabeth about it. He wanted to be the first to tell
her. Elizabeth crossed her arms, “what is it?” Hearing Elizabeth’s cold tone
made him decide to not tell her about his deal with Dante. “Elizabeth, please,
don’t be so cold to me. I miss you; I miss us. Is there any way we can go back
to the way we were?”
“We’ve
talked about this, Victor. You are married and I’m with your brother now.”
“I told
you, I am not happy with her. We will be divorcing soon.”
“Why do
I find that so hard to believe? And even if your wife and your brother weren’t
in the picture, I wouldn’t go back to you.”
“Don’t
say that, Elizabeth. There is still hope for us… please, come back to me. Do it
for the little girl we have together-.”
“You
will never change, will you? I am done with your lies. The reason why I allowed
you to come with us today was because you pretended to want to see Caroline,
but I am not a fool. Did you really think that you could persuade me by
pretending to be a good father? Did you really think I would run to your arms
just because you went to the Sabbatini’s today with me? You didn’t even show up
to your daughter’s forth birthday.” Victor spoke, “I’m sorry. Something came up
that day at the company-.”
“Si eres
Marico. Do you think I Care? She is your only daughter. Or at least I hope she
is your only daughter… I made a mistake thinking you had changed. I want you to
get out. Now! And don’t ever show up in front of my face. At least until you
know how to be a parent.” Elizabeth chuckled then continued, “at least you have
another child. Maybe you can learn how to be a parent with him.”
“Elizabeth,
please. I do want to be part of your life and Caroline’s. You don’t want her to
grow up apart from her father, do you?”
“Don’t
worry, she does have a father. Vincent is a better father than you.” Elizabeth’s
words hurt him. “That is because he already has two children of his own.”
“What
are you getting at? You also have two children of your own, yet you care for
neither of them.”
“I do
care for both of my children.” Elizabeth crossed her arms. “Oh? Really? Then
explain to me how one of your children lives on the other side of the country
and the other one calls your brother “dad.” Victor snapped. He placed his hand
on Elizabeth’s neck and pinned her against the wall. Victor increased the strength
on his grip then released. Elizabeth coughed and gasped for air. She slapped him
across the face, leaving the mark of her hand on his right check. “Get the ****
Out!” Right when Victor was going to return the slap, Vincent walked inside the
apartment. “What is going on here?” Victor put his hand down and walked towards
the door. “Good to see you, brother.” Victor casually walked out of the
apartment. Vincent walked over to Elizabeth who had the hand on her neck. “Are
you alright?”
“…Yes…
I’m fine.” Vincent hugged her and spoke, “I know I have asked you many times
already, but please, come live with me. Come with me to Atlanta.”
“Vincent…” Vincent pressed a kiss on her
forehead and pleaded, “please, we have been together for a little over a year.”
Elizabeth accepted, “okay, I’ll go live with you.”
The next day, Liam was woken up by
the vexatious sound of the alarm. He got up from his bed and went to get ready
for work. Caroline’s alarm also went off, she got up from the bed and went to
the bathroom. She took a shower, dried her hair and put on some clothes.
When
Caroline finished getting ready, she took off her ring and left it on her
nightstand. She went out of her room and made her way up the stairs. In the
dining room, Mrs. Spence had already served the food and Liam was reading the
news on his iPad while he drank his coffee.
Caroline sat on her chair, Liam’s right
and said, “good morning.” Liam did not even look up from the screen in his
hand. “Morning.” Caroline had her breakfast while she texted her chauffeur.
When she was finished eating, she
got a text from her chauffeur. Caroline was getting up from her seat as said, “excuse
me.” She grabbed her bag and started walking out the dining room when Liam
said, “you can’t go out like that. That skirt is too short.” Caroline turned
around and said, “did I ask for your opinion?” Liam portrayed a cold expression,
“If you continue to defy me, I will make sure that you won’t be able to walk
for a week.” Caroline just gave him a death stare and left. Liam smirked.
“Don’t say I didn’t warn you.” Caroline stopped without looking back. Then she
continued walking towards the elevator.
In her
office, Caroline was seated on her chair as Joseph explained today’s agenda.
When he finished explaining, Caroline asked, “did you get me a dress for
tonight?” Joseph handed the iPad to Caroline. “Here are some options.” Caroline
looked through the photos and found one dress that she really liked. Then she
remembered she could not wear a strapless dress; she still has the bite mark on
her shoulder.
Caroline
kept scrolling through the pictures but could not find a dress with sleeves. “Find
me a long sleeve dress please,” said Caroline as she handed the iPad to Joseph.
“Yes, Miss King,” Joseph replied before leaving her office.
By noon,
Joseph found a dress that his boss would like and would fit her perfectly. He
went in her office and showed her the picture of the dress he found. Caroline liked
this dress better. She saw the designer and decided to contact him. “Hola
Ricardo, es Caroline.” Ricardo responded, “yes, mi reina. How can I help you?”
Caroline asked, “I was wondering if you were busy at six today and if you still
have a dress that caught my eye.” Ricardo was not only a famous stylist, he
also started developing his own fashion line. Caroline finished with her work
and Joseph accompanied her to her appointment with Ricardo at his salon.
“Hola Ricardo,” said Caroline. “Mi
reaina, ¿cómo estás?” They greeted each other with a kiss on the cheek. “¿Bien
y tú?” Caroline replied. “Muy bien. Entonces, what are we doing today?” Ricardo
asked. “I have to attend a jewelry exhibition tonight.” Ricardo was happy to
style Caroline again, “say no more. The dress you picked will look perfect on
you, I designed it based on your beauty and grace.”
Ricardo did
Caroline’s makeup first. He did a smokey eye shadow, a winged eyeliner and he
painted her lips a subtle raspberry color. He styled her hair in a low bun in
the form of a braid and added small crystal hair pins. Caroline went to put on
her dress and told Ricardo, “could you style my friend over there too, please?”
referring to Joseph who was sitting in the sofa looking at his phone. Ricardo
nodded and went over to Joseph.
After Ricardo styled Joseph, he sat
back on the sofa to wait for Caroline. He got up from his seat as he saw
Caroline enter the private lounge. He did have to admit that his boss was beautiful
and he wondered, “how could someone replace her that easily” Caroline
wore a black long sleeve, low V-neck, maxi, open leg dress with black high heel
sandals and some diamond earrings. Caroline asked, “ready to go?” Joseph
replied, “ready.”
Joseph and
Caroline arrived at the building where the exhibition was being held. Joseph
got out of the white Rolls Royce and then opened Caroline’s door for her. He
extended his hand to help Caroline out. Caroline held onto Joseph’s arm as they
walked through the red carpet leading into the building.
As they
walked in, Caroline wondered if she would see Sebastian or Persephone there,
but then she remembered that Sebastian and Persephone were stuck at work. Caroline
began to greet the people as Joseph informed her of who they were. A waitress walked
over to them and offered them some champagne.
With a glass of champagne in her
hand, Caroline looked around the exhibition. A handsome man in his late twenties
walked up to her. Caroline was looking at some bracelets when she turned around
and saw the handsome, blue eyed, blond man standing behind her.
“Their quite beautiful, aren’t
they?” Looking at Caroline’s perplexed face he added, “the diamonds, I mean.”
“Yes- yes they are.” Caroline spoke
with a smile that shined brighter than the crystals on the jewelry. She could
tell the man was English because of his deep voice and mostly because of his
accent. The man extended out his hand. “I’m Harry Williams.” Caroline shook his
hand and said, “Caroline King, nice to meet you.” Harry invited Caroline to
look at the jewelry on exhibition and she agreed. Caroline got her eye on a
beautiful double chained pearl necklace with a rectangular sapphire jewel and little
rectangular diamonds surrounding the sapphire jewel.
Caroline
tried on the necklace and asked with a smile, “how does it look?” Harry
replied, “it looks perfect on you.” Caroline chuckled at Harry’s comment. Liam
was talking about business with some acquaintances when he saw Caroline smiling
and giggling with another man. His expression turned cold. The people that were
with him got a little scared because of his fierce expression.
Caroline
was just talking with Harry when Sofia and Christopher stepped in front of her.
“Honey, didn’t you say you’d buy me gift?” Sofia asked. “Yes, I did,”
Christopher answered. “I’d like that necklace.” Sofia pointed at the necklace
Caroline was wearing. Caroline rolled her eyes at them. Sofia was so envious of
Caroline, she wanted to be better than Caroline but always failed, even since high
school she was envious of her. “Then I’ll buy it,” answered Christopher.
“I’m afraid
you cannot have this necklace. Miss King took an interest of it first,” said
Harry. “Thank you, Mr. Williams, but if let her have the guy, I might as well
let her have the necklace. Either way, I’m not that interested in this necklace,”
Caroline spoke as she took off the necklace and made eye contact with Joseph, then
she gave a small bow as a signal. Joseph nodded and took out his phone. Caroline
grabbed Sofia’s hand and placed the necklace in her hand.
Then Caroline called the manager
over. “Yes, Miss King?” Caroline boldly spoke, “they’d like to purchase this
necklace.” The manager took out the contract from the portfolio he had on his
hand. “Right away.” All the money used in a purchase tonight would go to
charity. Christopher signed the contract and agreed to the cost without noticing
how much the necklace cost.
Few seconds’ later, everyone’s
phone started to go off with an email notification. It was from an anonymous
email and it had the file of the fraud Christopher’s father committed with the
company he handed to him. Everyone else got the same email and they began to
gossip. Christopher was involved in the same crime as his father. Joseph also
sent the email to the press. Caroline looked at her phone and opened the email
and showed it to Christopher, he almost fainted from the shock.
