"What do you mean?"
"Who is she and what is she to you?"
"I don't know what you are talking about!"
"Oh come on, Edward! Don't give me that bullshit! I've seen the way you look at her and I feel that there's something going on between you two!"
"You're imagining things, Liz!"
"I'm not! I know we're stuck in this loveless marriage but I know the look of love when I see it! And I see it in the way you look at her!"
"And what do you know of love? Have you ever been in a serious relationship?"
"Nope! But what I do know is that's the way I wish the person I love would look at me."
"Wait? Are you trying to tell me you're in love with me?"
"You wish!"
"So tell me, who is he?"
"Does it matter?"
"Of course it does!" Edward sees a bit of hope in their situation.
"Would you marry him if you could?"
"I would in a heart beat!"
"Then why don't you?"
"Because he only sees me as a younger sister! So, unfortunately, you're stuck with me!" then she wounds her arms around his waist and puts her chin on Edward's shoulder even pouting her lips as if asking for a kiss.
Which is the scene that Mary Dale sees upon entering the room.
She swallows the lump in her throat and tries her hardest to not let it affect her.
"Here’s your order sir, ma'am! Enjoy the night!" she says after arranging their orders on the table.
Edward tried to push Elizabeth away from him but she only tightened her hold on him.
She doesn't know why, but she wants to see the waitress' reaction.
She would have made a scene if she saw the man she loved dating another woman.
So she was surprised when the waitress just smiled at them and left.
She let's go of Edward.
Then she claps.
"No wonder you're in love with her!"
Edward just looks at her confused.
"So, are you going to tell me who she is or not? If you don't tell me who she is, I'm going to kiss you in front of her!" she says with a wicked grin.
Edward sighs and answers her....
"She's Mary Dale. She's my girlfriend. Ex girlfriend I mean! I broke up with her because of our engagement!" he says wearily.
"Oh my God! I'm sorry!"
"It's not your fault! I agreed to our engagement before I even met her!"
"You mean you entered into a relationship with her knowing that you are already engaged to me?"
Elizabeth doesn't know why she feels angry with what Edward did.
"Did she know of that fact when you asked her to be your girlfriend?"
"No. I told her I knew of our engagement just recently and that's why we had to break up!"
"Oh my God, Edward! I didn't know that you are such a jerk!" she feels angry now!
She can't imagine what she would have done if she were in Mary Dale's shoes.
"When did you two break up?"
"Only recently."
"And you have the guts to show your face to her here after what you did?"
"I miss her!" Edward admits with a lump in his throat.
"I didn't know that you are a cruel bastard, Edward!" she gets up and pulls Edward up with her.
Edward looks at her confused.
"We should leave! Don't show your face to her until you've grown some balls!"
After Edward paid their bill, they were about to go when he saw that a guy was talking to Mary Dale.
The guy was too close for comfort to Mary Dale while talking.
It's obvious that Mary Dale is uncomfortable with what the guy is doing but she still manages to smile.
When the guy suddenly held Mary Dale's waist close to him and whispered in her ear, Edward immediately came over and yanked Mary Dale away.
"What the f*ck, man! We're talking here!" and the guy even held Mary Dale's arm.
Edward tightly grasped the guy's hand so that the guy let go of Mary Dale.
He looked at the guy grimly.
Good thing the guy didn't insist and just left while holding the hand that Edward grasped.
He looked at Mary Dale and asked, "Are you okay?" with so much concern in his voice.
His voice was like a bucket of ice dumped on her back.
She stiffened her spine.
"You can let go of my hand now sir! I can deal with him myself!" and she even smiled at Edward to show that she's okay.
"I told you to stop me calling me sir!" he told Mary Dale exasperatedly.
"Sorry sir! But if you don't have anything else to say, then I'll go back to work!" she smilingly told Edward.
She could feel her lips tearing from smiling too much.
Just as she was turning her back to leave, Edward pulled her.
What does this asshole want to happen?
"Damn it, Mary Dale! Talk to me! Stop acting like you don't know me!" he said in too much frustration.
Mary Dale didn't speak, she just looked into Edward's eyes.
She can feel her heart beating rapidly again while it twitches in pain.
She's feeling the numbness again.
She clenched her fists.
She feels weary.
She doesn't want to put meaning anymore to what Edward is doing.
She already did that before.
She noticed from the corner of her eye the woman that Edward was with.
The woman was just looking at them as if observing what will happen next.
"My apologies sir! But I don't know what you are talking about." she says calmly.
Edward pulled his hair a bit in vexation.
He can't help but feel guiltier with what Mary Dale is showing him.
Maybe if she cried or blamed him, he would have accepted it.
But he can't accept her indifference.
Awhile ago when he saw what the guy was doing to her, he can't help but remember the first time they met.
"What were you two talking about?" Edward strives to calm his voice.
"He was asking me to be his mistress." she said with no emotion in a whisper-like voice.
She's used to those indecent proposals.
"What did you say?" Edward doesn't know if he heard her wrong.
She looks unaffected by it.
"He asked me if I was willing to be his mistress." the thought of which left a bitter taste in her mouth.
"F*ck! And you just let him talk to you like that?!?" he said in a loud voice.
"Sorry sir, but whatever we talked about is none of your business!"
"Wait! Don't tell me you agreed?!?" he asked in disbelief.
