Chapter 47

The long line in front of the stage slowly thinned. Reading the moment, Wesley clapped Julian on the shoulder just as his friend returned from the restroom.

"There we go, Julian. The path's cleared up a bit — let's head up," Wesley said.

Julian's eyes lit with excitement. His chest thumping with awe, he followed Wesley up onto the grand stage.

"Zach, Amara — congratulations!" Wesley greeted them sincerely, shaking both their hands. Then he gestured to the man beside him. "Zach, this is Julian, the college buddy I told you about — from my university days upstate."

Julian quickly stuck out his hand, shaking Zach's with a look of deep respect. "Congratulations on your marriage, Mr. Thorne, Amara. May you build a home full of peace and love. It's a real honor to be here at such an incredible celebration."

Zach met Julian's hand with a firm grip and a warm smile. "Thank you so much, Julian. Thanks for making the time. Wesley speaks of you often."

Truthfully, Julian was dying to launch into a long conversation, to trade thoughts on the business world with his idol. But he knew better — a wedding stage was hardly the place. As if reading his mind, Zach gave the young man's shoulder a light pat.

"When you've got some free time, come by my office with Wesley. We'll grab a coffee and talk shop," Zach offered warmly.

Julian started, caught off guard. "Y-yes, Mr. Thorne! Thank you so much, sir!" Inwardly he was cheering at the warm welcome from the young magnate.

Afternoon slid into evening, and the grand reception at last came to a flawless close. One by one, the guests filtered out of the Paradise Hotel ballroom.

In one of the lounge areas, Wesley approached Zach, Amara, and the whole Thorne family to say his goodbyes. He couldn't hide the worry on his firm young face.

"Zach, Amara, sir, ma'am . . . I have to ask your leave to head straight home tonight," Wesley said politely. "My mother's condition has gotten worse. I'm really worried about her."
