Into The Shadows
"Mommy, daddy! Look! It's a playground! Can I play, please?" I squealed in delight as my six-year-old legs began racing towards the swing set. "Honey, wait! You know what, go ahead! Have fun, sweetie!" My mom yelled as she wrapped her arms around my dad and smiled. My content parents watched as I had the time of my life on the slides, swings, and the seesaw.
Suddenly, a THUD was heard by everyone in the playground. "OUCHIE!" A young child yelled as he sat upon the ground rubbing his head. "Oh no," I said concerningly as I dashed towards the little boy," are you okay? Do you want me to help you?" The young boy nodded and took my hand, which I held out to him.
But, all of a sudden, at the very touch of my hand, the little boy began screaming and crying. He immediately fell to the ground and his body formed into a huddled position. "No. No. No. Please, no," the boy mumbled to himself, terrified. I was shocked at what just happened. All I did was touch his hand, and that's when he started to have a panic attack. "What...what is wrong with me?" I muttered to herself and stared at my hands. Everyone nearby ran towards the little boy and pushed me away from him. "Come on, honey," my mom said to me, pulling my arm, "we have to go! I knew this day would come." I just glanced back to the playground one last time to see people huddled around him. "What have I done..." I thought to myself as my parents and I left the area.
~Later On At Nightime.~
I gasped as I awoke from a nightmare. The visions and glimpses of me making that poor boy suffer were always recurring to me. As I lay in my bed trembling, my mom came in and sat on the edge of my bed. "What's wrong, sweetheart?" She whispered in a calming voice. I replied trembling with tears rolling down my face," Am I...am I a monster?"
My mom just stared at me as her eyes filled with tears at the thought of me thinking of myself as something so evil. "Sweetie," she began and wrapped her arms around me tightly," you are not a monster. You are my daughter. And I would never think of you as a monster, no matter what you do. But...in that sense...I knew that this day would come. I knew from the depths of my heart that you would eventually gain your power. And I was hoping that day would come later, but I guess not. So, your father and I will have to start protecting you now."
"What do you mean?" I questioned. "Well," my mother explained," we will have to set some boundaries."
