The Town Where Time Stopped
I remember the house I used to live in by the docks, how I vividly do. The wind blowing through the streets, the leaves rattling, the cold damp feeling as I stepped outside each time. The gloomy atmosphere… it made time feel like it had come to a stop, and yet the days continued by slowly but steadily, like the waters at the docks.
I used to dread this feeling, this atmosphere and how time seemed to never move. Everything seemed so - stagnant, yet peaceful. But it all changed that one unusual winter.
It was the coldest winter recorded. like always, the leaves of the trees withered away, the winds ran fast like athletes, snow covered the rooftops, streets and pathways and hardly anyone could be seen wandering the streets. Winter was the time of the year where time really felt like it had stopped, except for the waters at the docks that really had nothing interesting about them but they still continued to move slowly and steadily quietly freezing as winter went on.
I always stayed indoors during the winter and had nothing to do, so as a passerby I would look out the window and count anyone I could see. There would always be around 2 people out of their houses each day.
It was during that peculiar winter that I met him. He was a strange child who looked to be around my age. I spotted him from my window sitting on the docks starring at the calm water passing by as if there was something interesting to them. He was tall and skinny, had blonde hair that was silky and straight, styled with his hair tied up behind his head with a hair tie and straightened to look neat and tidy. What was strange about him was the way he dressed, he was outside in the cold winter yet he wore a plain white t-shirt and black shorts that went up to his knees.
I was curious as to what could have been so interesting about the waters by the docks, so I put on my coat and went to check it out for myself.
“What’s in the water?” I asked standing behind the boy
“Ahhhh!!!”
I heard a scream and the sound of a splash reply to my question, startled by the what just happened I quickly came back to my senses and realised the boy had fallen into the water.
“You can use the ladder over their to get up” I yelled whilst pointing to the left side of the dock.

2 minutes have passed, I waited 7 steps in front of the ladder preparing and waiting for the boy to come. The boy finally managed to get back up on the docks, I was expecting him to shout and get angry as soon as he got back — but he didn’t, he simply walk 5 steps closer to me and stared at me. The thing that was the most strangest about this was his facial expression, there wasn’t a trace of anger on his face nor a trace of any expression at all.

5 minutes have passed now and we were still in the same position and before I knew it I started analysing how handsome his face was. He had pretty jade coloured eyes, a smooth looking face, a perfect sized forehead, a perfect chin and jawline, he had a nose that wasn’t pointy but wasn’t flat which supplemented the rest of his face perfectly and his face shape which was straight from his for head to his mouth and curved to meet his chin in a hill like shape instead of a pointy mountain like shape.
“Are you done admiring my face?” He asked
“I...Umm...ahh...mhmm” For some reason I couldn’t talk properly, everything I was trying to say turned into stutter of words and finally I had to settle with a simple ‘mhmm’ before bowing my head down in embarrassment and blushing. As I looked up at the boy his face turned into a beautiful smile that made me blush even deeper.
“What’s so funny?” I said in a slightly angry tone.
“Nothing” the boy responded “let me stay over at your house”
I was yet again startled that was random and out of the blue. A boy and a girl in the same house spending time overnight, for some reason I began to fantasies about what would happen and all the situations of him trying to court me.
“Hello” His sudden voice woke me from my whatever I was doing.
“Umm...” I said recovering from my previous trance and trying to regather my memory’s of the past 5 minutes.
“So... — you did push me in the freezing water and a warm shower would be nice, after all I have no where else to go” He said before silently waiting for an answer.
