Sunita wanted to be a famous Bharatnatyam dancer. She had an understanding of music and rhythm from a very young age. Her Bharatnatyam teacher often told Sunita, “You have a very good grasp of rhythm and hand postures, but you need more dedication and commitment.”

Despite being such a talented girl and having great potential, she lacked discipline, and so she was far away from her dream of being a famous dancer

One day, her teacher called Sunita and said, “You should pray to Devi Brahmacharini for self-discipline and sacrifice. She helps all those people who lack dedication and commitment and help them achieve success.”

Sunita was now interested to know more about the Devi. She asked her teacher, “Ma’am, who was Mata Brahmacharini? How can we pray to her and will it help me?

Her teacher smiled and said, “She is one of the nine forms of Maa Durga. Mata Brahmacharini is worshipped on the second day of the Navratri festival. I will tell you more about her.”

She is the young form of Devi Parvati. She was kind, gentle, and loved by everyone. Parvati had a special dream in her heart: she wanted to marry Bhagwan Shiva, the most powerful god in the universe.

To please Bhagwan Shiva, she decided to follow the path of great self-discipline, surrender and sacrifice. For a long time, she ate only fruits, flowers and vegetables and slept on the floor of the forest. She prayed every day, asking for Bhagwan Shiva's blessings and guidance.

As the days turned into weeks and weeks into months, Parvati remained devoted and focused on her goal. To achieve success, she followed a strict path of dedication and commitment.

After many years of dedication, commitment and discipline, she achieved her goal, as Bhagwan Shiva noticed her efforts. Impressed by her dedication, Bhagwan Shiva granted her wish.

From that day on, Maa Brahmacharini became a symbol of devotion and strength. Anyone who prays to Mata Brahmacharini is blessed with hard work and discipline to achieve their goal.

Listening to this, Sunita was motivated and made a firm decision to work hard to be a famous Bharatnatyam dancer.

Sunita worshipped Maa Brahmacharini daily in the morning and evening and gradually she was dedicated and committed to achieving her objective.

Sunita herself, her parents and her teacher were really happy and pleased with Sunita’s progress and performance.

Sunita always remembered Maa Brahmacharini’s message that commitment, discipline, determination and sacrifice are the ways to move forward in life and one should not be disheartened by the numerous challenges that come the way.

Maa Brahmacharini’s story is rooted in the penance undertaken by Goddess Parvati to win Lord Shiva’s love. She endured years of hardship, initially living on fruits and leaves, and later on nothing at all, as part of her devotion. Despite the challenges, she remained focused on her goal, symbolising ultimate perseverance. Her story teaches the importance of dedication and resilience in one’s spiritual journey.
