Episode # 5
The library was quiet. Just the soft rustle of pages.
Rosa was walking between the shelves, looking for a book, when Fabiano suddenly stepped in front of her.
Fabiano Sedvaliza (ML's brother)
Hey.
Rosa Ian (FL's sister)
Hi.
Before she could say anything else, and move away from him, Fabiano gently grabbed her arm.
Fabiano Sedvaliza (ML's brother)
And pulled her into a narrow space between two tall bookshelves.
They were hidden now, the world outside muffled.
He leaned in close, his eyes locked on hers.
Fabiano Sedvaliza (ML's brother)
Did your sister agree to the job?
Rosa Ian (FL's sister)
I don't know. She didn't answer me.
Fabiano Sedvaliza (ML's brother)
Does she enjoy being jobless?
Fabiano Sedvaliza (ML's brother)
I hope she's not stubborn like you... and gets the job.
Rosa narrowed her eyes slightly, but didn't say anything.
Fabiano Sedvaliza (ML's brother)
she needs to think fast.
There was a moment of silence.
Rosa just looked at him, her face calm but unreadable.
Fabiano held her gaze, then straightened up with a shrug.
Fabiano Sedvaliza (ML's brother)
Just saying.
He muttered, before walking down the aisle.
Rosa stood still for a second longer, then turned back to her books.
~AT THE PRIVATE HOSPITAL~
Livia stood by the glass wall, her arms crossed tightly over her chest.
She stared at the woman lying still in the hospital bed. The machines beeped softly, keeping rhythm with the life still inside her.
Tubes ran to her arms, and her face looked pale and quiet, like she was sleeping but not really there.
She hadn't moved for days.
Just then, the doctor walked out of the room.
Livia turned to him quickly.
Livia Ian (FL)
Doctor... how is she? Is she getting better?
The doctor sighed and looked through the glass for a moment.
Evan Hansen (The doctor)
I would say...a bit better. But we must have faith she wakes up.
Livia Ian (FL)
Faith and prayers... that's what she needs now.
Evan Hansen (The doctor)
Yes. Sometimes, that's all we can hold on to.
Livia looked at the woman again. Her eyes softened, and her voice dropped.
Livia Ian (FL)
She's an angel in disguise.
Livia Ian (FL)
If I lose her...that would be the start of my failure.
The doctor glanced at her, quietly taking in her words. He didn't interrupt.
Livia turned back to him.
Livia Ian (FL)
How much are the bills now?
The doctor pulled a small paper from his pocket.
Evan Hansen (The doctor)
So far, with the private room, tests, and machines... it's ninety-three thousand dollars.
Livia Ian (FL)
Ninety-three thousand...
Livia repeated. The number hit her like a wave.
Livia Ian (FL)
I'll pay it.
she said, even though her voice was shaking.
Evan Hansen (The doctor)
Are you sure?
Livia nodded, trying to stay strong.
Then suddenly, she turned and ran out of the hospital.
His footsteps echoed in the hallway as she rushed past the reception desk and out of the glass doors.
