The temperature dropped instantly, his breath visible in the air. The whisper grew louder, angry, circling them both.
"..Liar..thief..murderer..."
The walls bled back.
Lucien grabbed Adrian's wrist suddenly, pulling him closer, his voice sharp.

Don't listen. If it gets inside your head—it will never let you go.
Adrian's pulse hammered at the contact, but his fear blurred with something else. Standing this close, he could see the cracks in Lucien's mask. A flicker of pain. A flicker of... longing.
Then the house screamed.
The lights shattered, and the floor caves beneath them.
