Chapter—2

Laying on the bed of my dorm room was certainly not the most interesting thing done by mankind, and I knew that all too well, Beth's letter was spread out beside me, the one I'd found when I came back into my dorm room after a long day. I found it tucked neatly under my pillow.

Dear Vi, it's me Beth, I know that I should've informed you about this sooner, but I just couldn't bring myself to do so, and I'm so sorry. But I have to tell you, I'm leaving Vitherine academy, for good. You see, my family's condition back at home isn't good, my father has just died, and my mother can no longer afford to pay her bills, let alone mine... My sister's marriage too, was called off because we could no longer pay the dowry, and Garrett... Well he cheated on me, he called me to the library and proposed, but I was a fool Vi... I accepted it happily when suddenly, he started laughing while his friends too walked out from behind the shelves, I was humiliated too Vi, and even now when I remember everything they did, I feel embarrassed and stupid, and I can't stay here even though my mother urged me to, not with such shame... Sorry for not telling you anything sooner Vi, I was worried that you might punch Garrett in the face and get yourself suspended... Take care...

^^^—Beth..^^^

I read that letter over and over again, until I remembered it word by word and didn't need to read it to remember Beth's tear stains on the crumbled paper, to feel the tremble of her hands when she must've written that letter, trying to not let her tears fall on the paper, trying to not smear the ink... I can't even think about what they must've done to her to humiliate her so much, everything that she couldn't write, the mere thought of it makes me tremble with hatred. But what could I do now? I was reckless and did exactly what Beth told me not to—punch Garrett on the face.

My face was buried in my pillow, my hair—undone, was spread wildly on the mattress, my uniform was crumbled, and I was half asleep when Isodle entered the room.

"Vi?" She called out, padding across the room with quiet steps as she placed her bag on her bed and sat on the edge of mine. Running her bony, long-fingered hand in my hair, stroking it gently.

"I got suspended..." I said, my voice coming out more muffled than I'd liked.

"Because of the Garrett situation?" She asked leaning closer.

I nodded in response, feeling too terrible to respond with words, fearing my voice might crack, and I can't allow anyone to feel the tremble in them, although I doubt anyone would ever pay such close attention to hear someone's voice crack slightly...

"He deserved it to be fair..." She says leaning back again.

"I know.... But still..." My voice trailed off as I rolled on my back instead of my stomach now.

"You feel terrible because you did the very thing Beth told you not to hm?" She asked with a knowing look and I hated how right she was.

"You just know everything don't you?" I asked, half joking half sarcastic.

"He told Beth to lick his dirty shoe clean." She said, knowing fully well that that was the information I was looking for.

"What—!? Why did you not tell me sooner Isodle?" I asked, surprisingly calmly.

"Because then you would've done more than just punch him on the face... You should be glad prince Felix called Miss. Ruiza before things escalated..." She said, making me scoff, me, be grateful because of him? No way. But of course, I couldn't say that, because even if paralyzed, he was still The Prince, a royalty...

"Anyway..." She said with a sigh, getting up. Isodle was beautiful, with skin as fair as the moonlight, hair as dark as a raven's, and those beautiful amber eyes of her that were so mesmerizing, that I wouldn't be surprised if you got lost in them.

Compared to her, I felt just above average, some days I'd get up and feel like the prettiest woman to walk on Earth, while the other days I'd see nothing but imperfections, my ugly imperfections...

"Isodle, do you know something I could do to spend my time during this stupid suspension?" I asked, unable to just sit back anymore, Isodle's bags were already packed and all I could do was watch.

"How long is this suspension thing anyway?" She asked, completely ignoring my question as she brushed out her long hair.

"Twenty-five days..." I replied, sitting up and holding a pillow in my hands over my lap.

"That surely is a long time…" She said with a hint of pity, probably..

"It sure is..." I agreed half-heartedly.

"Maybe you could look around the old library? I've heard that there are many... Interesting things there let's say..." She said, plopping on her long dangling earrings.

"Interesting things you say? I suppose it's worth it..." I said looking out the window.

"It sure ought to be.."

"So when will you be coming back?" I asked, trying to change the topic.

"My sister is having a baby, so I'll be back in a month probably, my kingdom has a lot of traditions for this baby things and all..." She said picking up her bags.

"Oh..." That sounded sadder than I'd like..

"Don't worry, you'll make it through..." She said, smiling fondly as she kissed my cheek before walking out of our dorm room, closing the door behind her.

I was alone and, with no one to talk to, I'd probably go crazy before she even comes back... My mind is whirling...
