Chapter 4: The Clash of Pride
RESTAURANT – NIGHT (CONTINUED)
The dinner between XIAO ZHAN and WANG YIBO grows heavier. The soft music contrasts the sharp words exchanged.
Wang Yibo (ML)
You think money and charm can buy answers. But people aren’t mergers, CEO.
Xiao Zhan (MC)
And you think pushing people away protects you. It only makes you lonelier.
Yibo slams his chopsticks down, eyes flashing.
Wang Yibo (ML)
You don’t know anything about me.
Xiao Zhan (MC)
(quietly, intense)
Then let me.
Silence. The air thickens. Yibo’s guard rises higher, while Zhan’s calm mask begins to crack—his need to understand Yibo bordering on obsession.
RESTAURANT PARKING LOT – LATER
Rain pours. The two step outside under the awning.
XIAO ZHAN offers his umbrella.
Wang Yibo (ML)
Keep it. I’m not fragile.
He turns to leave, stepping into the rain. Zhan grabs his wrist.
Xiao Zhan (MC)
(firm, almost pleading)
You can hate me, Yibo. But don’t ignore that something is happening between us.
Yibo stares at him—conflicted. The rain batters around them. For a second, their faces are inches apart.
Wang Yibo (ML)
(low, bitter)
That’s exactly why I should stay away.
He pulls free and disappears into the storm, leaving Zhan standing alone, drenched, his hand still trembling from the contact.
XIAO ZHAN’S APARTMENT – NIGHT
Zhan sits in the dark, tie loosened, glass of whiskey untouched. For the first time, the confident CEO looks… vulnerable.
His reflection in the window seems lonelier than ever.
Xiao Zhan (MC)
Why does he see through me so easily… when no one else ever has?
YIBO’S STUDIO – SAME NIGHT
Yibo throws his soaked jacket aside, pacing. He looks at a blank canvas, brush trembling in his hand.
He paints furiously, but no matter what he strokes onto the canvas… it becomes Xiao Zhan’s eyes.
Yibo drops the brush, breathing hard.
