Testing Nexus’s Speed.

Chris

Okay, so… you keep saying you’re fast. We need proof, man.

Nexus

Proof? I… I don’t know if I’m ready to push it.

Chris

Come on. We’ll do it safe. Empty park. Timer. No cars, no people. Just you and me.

Nexus

(Hesitant): … Fine. But if I break anything, you’re paying for it.

Later – City Park, empty at dawn.

Chris

(Setting up a stopwatch): Alright, let’s start slow. One lap around the park, normal pace.

Nexus

.… Normal pace? Boring.

Chris

Do it for science

Nexus jogs. Stopwatch runs. 1 lap = normal human speed.

Chris

Okay, that’s baseline. Now… go faster. Try to push yourself.

Nexus accelerates. Leaves whistle past him. Trees blur in his vision. Stopwatch clicks.

Chris

… What the—?! Nexus, that lap took… 7 seconds?! The human record is… like 2:30 seconds!

Nexus

(Breathing hard): I… I didn’t even think about it. My legs just moved.

Chris

(Grinning): This is insane. Let’s try a sprint to the other side. Short distance. Full speed.

Nexus hesitates. He runs. Wind whips past him. Stopwatch barely keeps up.

Nexus

(Thinking): It’s… fast… too fast? I feel… my body burning a little… heart racing… I can’t keep this pace for long.

Chris

Ha! That’s what I’m talking about! Your speed has limits, dude. Even if you’re crazy fast, you’re not invincible.

Nexus

(Smiling, exhausted): …Yeah. Guess this is the beginning. I can feel it… growing inside me.




