Episode 2

“Yes I’m a new transfer student,” I stated.

“Name,” she asked

“My name is Feng Huang,” I said.

“Age & Grade,” she asked.

“I’m fifteen and tenth grade,” responded.

“Wait here Fang,” she said.

Fang? “Um, my name is Feng,” I said.

But, she continued to walk to the back of the office. Standing there alone waiting for her to come back, a girl with long brown curly hair, wearing a red and white girls uniform walked in. I guess I had been staring at her for far too long because, she smiled at me awkwardly as we made eyesight. Turning my head, it startled me, when she asked “where’s the old lady?”

“Huh? Oh, she just went to the back, she said she’ll be back,” I said.

“Oh okay,” she said.

Then before I knew it, she hopped over the small door gate, that separated the reception area and the seats. Pretty sure that the students weren't supposed to be on that side, I watched as she walked to the back right of the room, and tried to open up the drawer.

“Dang it,” she mumbled to herself.

Pulling something shiny out of her blazer, it must be a lock pick because she began fiddling with the lock. Skillfully, she opened the drawer and pulled out a phone. As she was putting it into her blazer pocket, I could see the reception lady coming out of the back office. I don’t know why I cared, but I began to motion to the girl that the ‘old lady’ was coming back. The girl didn’t notice but, she did hear the footsteps and she quickly closed back the drawer and hopped back over the door gate. The girl was now crouched down on the floor next to my legs. It was clear, this wasn’t the first time she has done this.

The older woman came back to her seat with a mini-stack of papers in her hand.

“Okay Fang, here’s your schedule, your room number, and room key. I just need you to sign these papers and you’ll start attending class tomorrow, welcome to Z Academy” the older woman said.

Ignoring the fact that she still said my name wrong, I thanked her welcome and signed the documents, that were filled with the rules and curfew time. Only twelfth graders could leave off campus and tenth graders were supposed to be in the dorms by nine o’clock. Giving the papers back to her, I saw her eyes go wide.

“Your name is Feng?” she asked.

“Yes” I said.

“I could have sworn you told me it was Fang,” she stated, sounding as if she had an attitude.

Was she seriously getting mad over the fact that she said my name wrong. She was clearly bonkers, and since I didn’t have the will to argue with her, I responded with a lie, “oh sorry, maybe I did, Fang is my nickname.”

Before  she could say anything, the buzzing sound of a phone filled the room.

Trying not to look down at the girl sitting on the floor next to me, I knew the sound was coming from her.
