The Wankem estate was brighter than the Moren’s stone fortress, yet tonight it felt heavy with shadows. Inside the grand hall, Killian Wankem sat on the polished floor, his face buried in his arms, shoulders shaking as tears streamed down his cheeks. His sobs echoed in the chamber like a child’s cry lost in a storm.

“I don’t want it, Appa!” His voice cracked, desperate. “I don’t want to marry! Why are you forcing me?!”

From his seat, Kain Wankem, his father, rubbed a hand over his face. The Alpha’s expression was firm, unyielding, though faint traces of guilt pulled at the corners of his mouth. Beside him, Kainy Wankem, the patriarch and Killian’s grandfather, crossed his arms. His gaze was sharp, piercing, his voice rough with authority.

Killian’s chest heaved as he lifted his tear-stained face, eyes red and shimmering with helpless rage.
