Contract Marriage: I Wanted a Job, Not a Husband!
Chapter 2
Lillian stared at the man with confusion written all over her face.
Xavier Haughton
I'd like you to marry me.
Lillian Grace
I heard you but why should I?
Lillian Grace
I came here for an interview sir not a marriage proposal.
Lillian Grace
I don't even know you that well.
Xavier Haughton
All you need to know is that I'm rich.
Xavier Haughton
And that this is only a contract marriage.
Xavier Haughton
If you marry me you will be treated well and you will also have access to my money.
Xavier Haughton
Doesn't that sound like a win?
Lillian Grace
I would rather be your secretary than enter into a contractual marriage with a man I just met.
Xavier Haughton
...Ha...I see how it is.
Xavier Haughton
You're not easily persuaded by money.
Xavier smiled a little and then gave her a stern look.
Xavier Haughton
I already have a secretary.
Xavier Haughton
The woman who lead you here was his substitute.
Lillian Grace
Then what was that poster even for?
Lillian Grace
Yes! I saw a poster a few days ago-
Lillian Grace
Wait it's in my bag
Lillian looked through her bag.
To her surprise there was no poster.
Lillian Grace
(I could've sworn I put it in here..)
Xavier Haughton
Cant find it?
Lillian Grace
No...I left it at home.
Xavier got up and walked around her side of the desk then stood behind her chair, Pressing a gentle hand to her shoulder.
Xavier Haughton
How about you go home and think about my offer?
Xavier Haughton
Who knows...*leans closer to her ear*
Xavier Haughton
It might even benefit you more than it does me.
Xavier whispered in her ear.
Lillian eyes widened for a second then she turned to look at Xavier.
Lillian Grace
(It's almost like he knows what situation I'm in...)
Lillian Grace
(But how could he?)
Lillian Grace
(We've only just met today.)
Xavier Haughton
I'll see you soon.
Xavier Haughton
I'll see you soon, Lillian Grace.
Lillian got home a few hours later.
She took off her heels, and stripped down to her under wear before crawling into bed and laying down on her back.
Lillian Grace
...what the hell...
Lillian Grace
(I was so confident today, but then that guy had to hit me with that contract marriage bullsh*t.)
Lillian Grace
All I wanted was a job.
Lillian Grace
Not a husband.
Lillian Grace
I don't care if it's contract or not. The only man I'll be marrying is the man that I love.
Xavier sat in his office.
He had a serious look on his face has he was staring at his paperwork.
But no matter how serious this man got it couldn't even hide how handsome he was.
Xavier put down his paperwork on the desk and sighed, then leaned back in his chair to stare up at the ceiling.
while staring blankly a the ceiling he remembered the words Lillian had spoken earlier,
Lillian Grace
"I would rather be your secretary than enter into a contractual marriage with a man I just met."
Xavier couldn't help but laugh a little.
Xavier Haughton
I thought she wouldve just accepted right off the bat.
Xavier Haughton
More like I thought she was desperate enough to accept.
Xavier Haughton
But I should've known better than that....
Xavier then glanced at a photo on his desk.
Xavier Haughton
Strong, independent, prideful, and not easy to take advantage of.
Xavier Haughton
Just like back then.
He then gently swiped his finger over the framed photo on his desk. Quietly staring at it as if remembering something...A memory he treasured dearly.
Xavier Haughton
Sebastian...
Sebastian (Secretary)
Yes sir?
Sebastian suddenly appeared inside the office.
His presence was like that of a ghost.
Xavier Haughton
Make sure to inform the employee's of Lillian's arrival.
Xavier Haughton
When she comes back tell them to escort her directly to my office.
Sebastian (Secretary)
...What if she doesn't come back sir...?
Xavier's eyes shifted from the photo to glare at Sebastian Sternly.
Xavier Haughton
She will be back...
He glances back at the picture.
Xavier Haughton
once a fish catches the bait it will realize it's too late to let go...
