The mansion drowned in silence that night. Neither of them dared to cross the distance.
Guilt scratched at the back of Jungkook’s heart like an unwelcome guest. She hated the way her voice had risen that night, hated the tears she’d shed in silence. But… it was her parents. How could Taehyung speak so cruelly of them? They were her blood, her world—weren’t they? They never wanted her bad. Right?

At midnight, when the world slept, he would slip into her room twice—checking if her blanket was tucked, if her breath was steady.
Every day, he bought her favorite chocolate cake from the patisserie across town, hiding it away in the kitchen drawer like a secret offering.

The morning she prepared to visit home, a flicker of relief passed her lips when the maid said something when she asked about taehyung.

“Miss… Master is out of town. He won’t return for two days.”
Jungkook’s shoulders sagged as though the chains had loosened.

“Really?” she asked, almost smiling.

“That means… I’ll be free for a while.
The maid gave her a cautious look, biting her tongue.
The maid lowered her head not saying anything, cuz she knows it went all in vain even if she said how her master cares for his wife. She choose to stay silent.
Jungkook didn’t pay heed. She packed quickly, her heart lighter, ready to step into her parents’ embrace.
But what she didn’t know was that her ‘freedom’ carried a shadow. And the moment she walked into her parents’ house, the truth waiting for her would tear that illusion apart.
