More Than Just Classmates
Chapter 4
Chapter 4: Stealing glances.
The teach, still looking a little miffed from Seoyeon’s earlier remark, slapped the attendance book shut and cleared her throat.
Kim Nari [Teacher]
Alright, let's get started. Open your textbooks to page seventy-three.
The faint rustling of pages full the classroom. The sunlight spilling in through the tall windows painted long rectangles across the desks. Outside, a few birds chirped faintly, almost too cheerful for the mood inside.
Haneul, who had been lazily flipping her pen between her fingers, let out a small yawn.
Song Haneul
Page seventy-three, huh... ? Yeah, no thanks. *muttered*
She leaned back in her chair, tilted her head toward the window and within a movement, her eyes fluttered shut.
Seoyeon, seated beside her, didn’t so much glance in her direction. She kept her posture perfectly straight, eyes fixed on the open book in front of her. As If she didn’t cared what was happening around at all. Her pen moved with a steady rhythm, jotting down neat bullet points in the margins. Even when Haneul’s head gently tilted to the side, almost brushing her shoulder, Seoyeon remained still — as if she was immune to distractions.
A few desks away, Yujin sat with her back straight and her handwriting perfectly aligned with the faint blue lines of her notebook. She was already a paragraph ahead in the exercise when she felt the subtle shift of movement beside her.
Haru was... doing it again.
Every time Yujin picked up her pen, Haru picked up hers. When Yujin tapped the end of her pen against her lip, deep in thought, Haru mimicked it almost perfectly — as if they were in some kind of strange mirror game.
Yujin tried to ignore it at first. She adjusted her position and kept writing, telling herself it wasn’t worth the energy. But by the third time Haru’s pen strokes matched hers, she finally stopped, her eyes narrowing slightly.
Seo Yujin
*Frown* Are you... copying me?
Haru froze mid-scribble. For a second, her eyes darted between Yujin’s notebook and her own — identical in layout down to the underlined words. Then, she gave a tiny, sheepish smile, as if caught red-handed but unwilling to admit.
Yujin stared at her for a beat longer, then exhaled through her nose. She shook her head, rolling her eyes in a way that said unbelievable, and turned back to her notes.
But in the back of her mind, the tiniest thought tugged at her.
Seo Yujin
( Why is she... so cute. )
Haru, meanwhile, lowered her gaze back to her notebook. She kept her hands moving, but her lips curved up into the faintest smile, as if pleased with herself for getting away with something.
The teacher’s voice droned on in the background, the lesson flowing, but the tension — one quiet and awkward, the other stubbornly indifferent — lingered between the pairs of the desk mates.
