Halal Love: Beneath Her Veil
chapter 5
The morning sun poured golden light through the Jeon household as laughter and footsteps echoed from the kitchen. It was a rare full house today — all three Jeon daughters were home, along with their husbands and children. The aroma of cardamom tea and warm parathas lingered in the air as the family gathered for breakfast.
Park Soobin, tall, soft-spoken, with that ever-patient smile, bounced little Sonya on his lap while Kai raced around the living room holding a toy spaceship.
Min Yoongi, calm and observant, sipped his tea slowly, watching the family with quiet amusement. His wife, Jimin, sat close beside him, gently rubbing Mark’s back as he tried to feed grapes to his teddy bear.
Kook sat near the window, quietly buttering toast, still in her lilac loungewear and freshly braided hair. Her face was calm, but her mind was far from it — replaying the night before, the softness in her father's voice, the way her heart had fluttered in confusion when he mentioned Taehyung.
Soobin said between bites,
park soobin
I heard there was a special guest last night?
jeon jimin
Three , actually.
Yoona chuckled softly, already knowing where this was going.
Jeon Hoseok raised a brow, not even trying to hide the pride and hesitation in his voice.
jeon hoseok
Kim family came. With a marriage proposal.
Soobin paused, then glanced toward Kook with wide eyes.
Kook looked down at her plate instantly.
Yoongi blinked.
min yoongi
Wait… Kim family? As in Kim Namjoon and Kim Taehyung?
jeon hoseok
You know them?
Yoongi leaned forward slightly.
min yoongi
Of course I do. Taehyung is my cousin.
The entire room paused.
Even Jimin turned toward her husband with raised eyebrows.
Yoongi said casually, setting his tea down.
min yoongi
Taehyung and I share the same maternal aunt. I didn't mention it before because… well, the families couldn’t attend our wedding. That side of my family lives a bit far and we didn’t have time to bring everyone together.
He looked toward Hoseok and Yoona, then at the sisters.
min yoongi
But I can tell you this — Taehyung is a really good guy. A little quiet, but incredibly focused. His parents died in a car accident when he was just 15.
Kook’s hand froze over her toast.
Yoongi continued,
min yoongi
Namjoon-hyung was only 21 at the time. He put college aside, started teaching part-time, and handled their small family shop. Taehyung helped after school. They had no extended family close enough to support them.
Yoona placed her hand on her chest, heart aching a little at the thought.
min yoongi
When Taehyung turned 20,
min yoongi
He launched his own business — a creative agency with just three people. Within five years, it grew into **Kim Corporation**. Now he's one of the youngest CEOs in the city. That little shop they used to run? It’s now a mall. Namjoon runs it.
The room was completely silent, every heart a little heavier.
jeon hoseok
And despite all that?
min yoongi
He’s still humble. Still prays regularly. Still visits the masjid every day. Honestly... I couldn’t dream of a better man for a sister-in-law.
Younjun grinned, eyes sparkling.
Jimin chimed in, her voice rising like a child who found a secret.
The teasing began instantly.
jeon jimin
You’re going to be our little CEO bride\~!
jeon younjun
Quick! Someone get the bridal henna started!
jeon jimin
Are you going to change your signature to Jeon-Kim Kook?
jeon younjun
Kook-Taehyung, sitting in a tree—!
Kook squealed, red instantly blooming across her cheeks. She stood up so fast her chair made a loud scraping sound.
Jimin and Younjun exchanged a high-five.
Even Soobin and Yoongi were smiling now, amused by the rare sight of Kook’s full blush.
She muttered, covering her face with both hands, then darting out of the living room like a startled kitten. Her slippers squeaked against the floor as she disappeared up the stairs.
A second later — **SLAM** — her bedroom door shut.
And laughter *erupted* from the rest of the house.
jeon jimin
She’s in denial,
jeon younjun
Classic symptoms.
Yoona shook her head, hiding a smile.
jeon yoona
Let her breathe.
Hoseok chuckled quietly, then glanced at Yoongi again.
jeon hoseok
You’ve given us more than we knew. Thank you.
Yoongi nodded with sincerity.
jeon hoseok
You’re welcome. I just wanted you to know the kind of heart he carries.
Upstairs, Kook leaned against her door, her hands still covering her cheeks.
She wasn’t angry. Just overwhelmed. Her heart fluttered for no reason. Her mind kept repeating Yoongi’s words.
min yoongi
**“Still prays regularly.”**
**“One of the youngest CEOs.”**
**“He looked like he’d found something precious.”**
And suddenly... his eyes, that night in the restaurant, made more sense.
*“Sometimes it takes someone else’s words to make us see what was right in front of us.”*
