Hike - Part 1

Kai woke up to a whiff of maple syrup.

"Huh? Wait- Maple syrup? Hey Kei, you ordered pancakes?"

"Yeah, so hurry up and come outside already, unless you like cold food of course, and are okay with me getting mad at you for that."

"And get myself whooped? Heck no. I'll be there in a second."

Kai got dressed and sat down at the table with Kei.

"Kei."

"Yeah?"

"Where do you wanna go for the hike?"

"Anywhere you want to go is good."

"Okay, how about the place I mentioned before?"

"Sure, I don't mind!"

"That's settled then. By the way, we're gonna go back to Japan tomorrow. Actually, on second thought let's go back today."

"What-"

Before Kei could finish, Kai reached for her chin from across the table and kissed her. The sweet taste of maple syrup on each of their lips enticed them to go further but a knock on the door had them blushing.

"I- I'll go get the door."

Kai got up, and opened the door of the hotel room. One of the hotel staff members asked Kai whether the food was good or not and to rate the food and provide his reviews on the tablet that the staff member provided him with. After the staff member left, Kai closed the door and sat down on his seat. They finished the rest of their breakfast in awkward silence because of the disruption.

Kai and Kei dressed into their hiking clothing.

While Kei was dressed in black hiking suit, Kai was wearing a mixture of a shade of deep red and black. They set off to Solstice Canyons.

Walking. It took them about five minutes to reach. Kei was skipping in excitement and Kai was doing his best to not smile at her childish glee, but couldn't help letting out a soft chuckle. After all, she seemed like a completely different person when she was actually happy. Almost as if she doesn't suffer from any pain on the inside, like at the moment all her pain has been blown away by the wind.

The bright sunshine swam through the gaps between the dark green leaves of the trees in Solstice Canyons and hit the thick, luscious grass. They walked on, enjoying the sound of birds chirping on their way. The atmosphere was quite tranquil, despite the fact that there were many people hiking as well - as if time and space had stopped specially for them to enjoy. As they moved forward, they missed out on a sign that told hikers to turn left and were walking straight towards the canyon. As they chattered away, Kei had stopped talking and noticed the change in her surroundings. The trees were thicker and almost no sunlight could enter due to the density of the forest. She held Kai's hand and yanked him back. He looked around puzzled, unable to understand why they had paused all of a sudden. It then struck him that they were in the deep part of the forest. Kai thought about using GPS to get out of there, but reconsidered. "Uh....we're in the 21st century, Kai. Google is there for a reason." "Right." Kai followed Kei's suggestion and were able to get out of there.
