Slow Bloom: A Story Between Desks
Rainy day traditions
The rain had returned — steady, silver streaks sliding down the windows like lazy tears. Most students huddled near the hallway heaters or tried to nap through the dull buzz of the cloudy afternoon.
Jungkook sat at his desk, chin resting in his palm, watching droplets race on the glass.
Taehyung/ V
Taehyung suddenly whispered from beside him, “Wanna ditch lunch?”
Kookie/ Bunny
Jungkook turned. “Why?”
Taehyung/ V
“Rain Day Tradition.”
Kookie/ Bunny
“…What tradition?”
Taehyung/ V
“Can’t tell. You’ll ruin it.”
Taehyung gave him a mischievous look and stood. “Come on.”
🌧️ Old Music Room – 4th Floor
They snuck into the unused music room at the end of the hallway — quiet, dim, and filled with dusty chairs and a broken piano in the corner.
Taehyung/ V
Taehyung threw his bag down and hopped up onto the windowsill. “Rain sounds better from up here.”
Kookie/ Bunny
Jungkook blinked. “You come here every time it rains?”
Taehyung/ V
Taehyung nodded. “It’s my hiding spot. You’re officially invited.”
Jungkook sat beside him on the sill. The rain did sound nicer here — softer, more distant.
For a long moment, they just sat in silence, listening.
???
“YAH!” someone shouted. “Who stole my lunch?!”
A short boy with dark black hair and round cheeks stood in the doorway, dramatically holding a soggy sandwich bag.
Taehyung/ V
Taehyung groaned. “Oh no.”
Kookie/ Bunny
Jungkook raised an eyebrow. “You know him?”
Taehyung/ V
“Unfortunately,” Taehyung muttered. “Meet Park Jimin.”
Jimin/ Chim
Jimin stomped in, eyes narrowed. “I knew it was you hiding in here, Kim Taehyung.”
Taehyung/ V
Taehyung blinked innocently. “I did not steal your lunch. Why would I want your sad ham sandwich?”
Jimin/ Chim
“Because last time you said it tasted like betrayal and you wanted to analyze it for poetic value.”
Jungkook stifled a laugh.
Jimin/ Chim
Jimin turned to him. “Oh. And who’s this?”
Taehyung/ V
“Jeon Jungkook,” Taehyung answered for him. “My new… uh… partner-in-detention.”
Jimin/ Chim
Jimin gasped dramatically. “You corrupted a transfer student?!”
Taehyung/ V
Taehyung leaned back. “He ran before I did.”
Kookie/ Bunny
“I regret nothing,” Jungkook said flatly, surprising himself.
Jimin/ Chim
Jimin looked at him with narrowed eyes… then slowly smiled. “You might survive this school after all.”
As the rain started to fade, the three walked back toward the classroom together.
Jimin chatted nonstop, asking Jungkook a million questions. At first, Jungkook gave one-word answers. But Jimin was relentless — joking, teasing, calling him “muscle bunny” after finding out he liked working out.
Taehyung watched from the side, quietly amused.
Jimin/ Chim
Later, as they reached the stairs, Jimin nudged Jungkook and said, “You’re sitting with us at lunch tomorrow.”
Kookie/ Bunny
Jungkook blinked. “I already sit with Taehyung.”
Jimin/ Chim
Jimin grinned. “Yeah. Us. Welcome to the weird club.”
That night, Jungkook didn’t write anything in his journal.
But he felt something unfamiliar settle in his chest.
Not excitement.
Not fear.
Just… warmth.
Like maybe Seoul didn’t feel so unfamiliar anymore.
