Scene: Lucknow – A Small House in a Narrow Lane
The aroma of boiling tea fills the modest kitchen. Meher Sharma, 22, neatly ties her dupatta and pours tea into a steel cup. She tiptoes into her mother’s room, placing the cup beside her.
Her mother, Sunita Sharma, rests on a thin mattress. Pale. Weak. Still trying to smile for her daughter.
Sunita Sharma (Fl mother)
(softly):
“Meher beta, naukri ka interview kaisa tha?”
("Meher, how was jobs interview")
Meher Sharma (FL)
*smiles… a fake one.*
Meher Sharma (FL)
(softly):
“Waise hi jaise zindagi chal rahi hai Maa… thoda sambhal ke, thoda gir kar.”
(Just like life is going, Maa… half steady, half falling.)
She hides the rejection letter folded in her diary.
