Chapter 4: Numine Mortis

Upon waking up, Mavis heads into her dorm room where she contacts her shaman teacher Ariana Vern, Mavis speaks about the encounter and questioned why the spirit wasn't destroyed despite her best attempts at doing so, Ariana teaches her that vengeful spirits with a strong enough tether to this world can't be vanquished untill that tether is severed, so Mavis would have to seek out and destroy the tether binding the spirit to this world, Mavis then thanks Ariana and assures her that she would be fine. The next morning, Mavis seeks out Mariam and asks her to tell her all the information about missing students dating back to 7 years ago, Mavis figured it would be at least that long ago this spirit died because she was dressed in a K University uniform which had been abolished 6 years prior to date, Mariam being the queen of gossip and a candid lover of the occult reaches out to her contacts before later getting back at Mavis to hand her a folder full of files on missing students dating back to 10 years prior, Mavis thanks Mariam and heads to the library for quiet to carry out research, but Mavis who was disoriented after facing the spirit could not remember the face she saw clearly but hoped that by looking through she could find an image that would complete the memory but seemingly getting nowhere she lets out a sigh and suddenly a low deep voice speaks from behind her saying "you have some off hobbies but who am I to judge" Mavis turns around and sees standing behind her a white low hair, red eyes and light skinned strikingly handsome young man unbeknownst to her this was none other than death himself, he inquires on her reason for studying old missing cases to which she replies "don't worry about it" as she stands up ready to leave but death speaks up saying " is this about the ghost wandering the accounting building", startled she asks him what he knows about a ghost to which he replies "she was quite a chilling experience wasn't she" hearing him put a gender to the ghost tells her that he had most likely seen her too, sitting back down she asks if he saw her clearly, to which he shifts around the files and picks one out saying "this is her". But as night began to gather Mavis realizing that the spirit would once again appear under the cover of darkness rushes out of the library to the building to help protect anyone from being hurt by the vengeful spirit but she is followed by death who offers to help, upon their arrival Mavis realizes that there are quite a few students around the building and starts wondering on how to push them away for now before death steps up and says "let me handle them, you get inside" he dashes off to the sidelines and a few minutes later an explosion can be heard nearby causing the students to move towards the source, Mavis realizing that it must be the distraction quickly dashes into the building, shielding herself with a talisman she attempts to speak to the spirit that had once again appeared but still confused and angry, the spirit flipped the classroom causing shelves to fall and tables hurled at Mavis but Mavis then calls out the spirit by her name "Sarah", the spirit is once again taken aback and memories flood into her, she then screams while once again muttering "I died, they killed me" over and over again", she became more ferocious and attempts to attack Mavis again but death enters the classroom from behind Mavis causing the ghost to flee from him by causing a ceiling fan to fall on Mavis but she is saved by death, Mavis pondering on where the spirit had gone to which death tell her that from the looks of it, this spirit didn't know that she was dead until now, so most likely, she was going to go after those tht wronged her, Mavis asks how he's so knowledgeable on the matters of that to which he replies "I'm a big fan of the spiritual world and so he studies on them". Mavis the thanks him for helping her before introducing herself officially as a 9th generation shaman by the name of Mavis Mel, she then asks him he's name to which he replies with a smile on he's face "I am a loved of all things death related, my name is Numine Mortis nice to meet you.

Side note: Numine Mortis is Latin for deity of death
