EP-1
Ayaan Malhotra/ML
“You're late, Miss Sarma.”
Tanya strolled into the classroom exactly two minutes and thirty-eight seconds after the bell rang, holding a coffee cup like she was walking a red carpet, not entering a lecture hall.
Tanya sharma/FL
“I know, Sir.” *she said dramatically, placing her hand on her chest.* “It took me time to mentally prepare myself to see your face again.”
A few students gasped. A few snorted. Ayaan Malhotra’s jaw twitched.
His eyes, sharp and calculating, scanned her like she was a particularly annoying bacteria under a microscope.
Ayaan Malhotra/ML
“Take your seat before I make you dissect a frog with your teeth.”
Tanya sharma/FL
*Faked a gasp.* “Sir! That’s animal cruelty—and I’m a vegetarian.”
Ayaan Malhotra/ML
“That’s academic karma.”
She slumped into her seat at the back, dramatically placing her bag on the desk as if she carried the burden of the world.
Ayaan turned back to the board, scribbling "Reproductive System" in bold letters.
Tanya sharma/FL
*Raised a brow.* “How exciting. Nothing like talking about organs first thing in the morning.”
Ayaan Malhotra/ML
*Without turning, he said coldly* “Maybe you’ll finally understand how the human brain works—if you pay attention for once.”
Kavya leaned toward her best friend and whispered..
Tanya sharma/FL
“He’s totally obsessed with me.”
Ayaan Malhotra/ML
“I heard that.” *he snapped.*
Tanya sharma/FL
*She grinned, leaning back in her chair like a queen on her throne.* “You were meant to, Sir.”
The entire class held its breath.
This wasn’t new. tanya Sarma and Professor Ayaan Malhotra had been at war since day one.
She thought he was arrogant and grumpy.
He thought she was immature and infuriating.
Twelve Years Ago
10-year-old tanya Sarma was standing at the door with a tub of ice cream in one hand and her eyes narrowed in suspicion.
Tanya (10 years old)
“Who’s that?”
She asked, pointing the spoon toward the tall, broody boy walking into her house like he owned it.
Karthik (18 years old)
“That’s Ayaan,” *throwing an arm around him.* “My best friend. He’s staying here for the weekend.”
Tanya sharma/FL
“Why does he look like he hasn’t smiled in seventy-two years?”
Ayaan (18 years old)
*Glanced down at her and blinked.* “Why does your sister look like a gremlin with chocolate on her nose?”
Tanya (10 years old)
*Gasped, wiping her face furiously.* “EXCUSE YOU. I’m adorable.”
Ayaan (18 years old)
“You’re annoying.” *he replied without blinking.*
Tanya (10 years old)
“Wow,” *she huffed.* “You must be fun at parties.”
Ayaan (18 years old)
“I don’t go to parties with kids.”
Tanya (10 years old)
“Well, now I know why your face is always grumpy.”
Karthik (18 years old)
*he was trying not to laugh.* “tanya, behave. He’s our guest.”
Ayaan (18 years old)
*Raised an eyebrow.* “Is she always this dramatic?”
Karthik (18 years old)
“Every day.”
Later that evening…
tanya was drawing a moustache on Ayaan’s Biology textbook with a permanent marker.
Tanya (10 years old)
“I’m giving him character.” *she muttered, adding devil horns.* “He looks better already.”
Suddenly, a shadow fell over her.
Ayaan (18 years old)
“You little gremlin!”
Tanya (10 years old)
She looked up and smiled sweetly. “Oh no, I was just improving the diagrams. See? This amoeba has sunglasses now.”
Ayaan (18 years old)
*Groaned, grabbing his book.* “You’re evil.”
Tanya (10 years old)
“And you’re boring.” *she shot back.*
From that day forward, they were enemies. Whether it was hiding his notes, spilling juice on his shirts, or calling him "Mr. Grumpypants," tanya made sure to irritate him every chance she got.
And Ayaan?
He always rose to the bait.
Years later…
She walked into her first university lecture, opened the door…
And there he stood.
Chalk in hand. Expression still grumpy. Voice still deep.
Ayaan Malhotra/ML
“Good morning, class. I’m Professor Ayaan Malhotra.”
Tanya sharma/FL
*Almost dropped her bag.* “YOU?!”
Ayaan Malhotra/ML
“Oh God. Not you again.”
She slumped in her seat, muttering to herself.
Tanya sharma/FL
“Fate really hates me.”
Ayaan Malhotra/ML
“Miss Sarma.”
tanya was pretending to be asleep in the back row, her head resting on her folded arms, a pair of oversized sunglasses covering her eyes like she was on vacation.
Ayaan Malhotra/ML
*his voice cut through the air like a cold wind.* “Unless you’ve died, I expect your eyes on the board.”
Tanya sharma/FL
*She sat up slowly.* “Sir, I was manifesting. For inner peace.”
Ayaan Malhotra/ML
“Try manifesting better grades instead.”
Tanya sharma/FL
*She smiled sweetly.* “You know, Sir, for someone who teaches reproduction, you suck the life out of people.”
Ayaan Malhotra/ML
*he walked closer, arms crossed.* “And for someone who attends my class regularly, I’m impressed by your consistent lack of brain activity.”
Gasps.
tanya stood up dramatically, placing a hand over her heart.
Tanya sharma/FL
“That was a personal attack. I’m emotionally wounded.”
Ayaan Malhotra/ML
“Good. That’s the only thing I’ve successfully penetrated—your emotions. Because clearly, your skull is biology-proof.”
Tanya sharma/FL
*She blinked.* “Wow. Did you stay up all night writing that line?”
Ayaan Malhotra/ML
“No. I was too busy grading your last test.”
Tanya sharma/FL
*She tilted her head.* “And? Did I pass?”
Ayaan Malhotra/ML
“Let’s just say, if your test paper had a heartbeat, I’d declare it dead on arrival.”
Tanya sharma/FL
*she dramatically fell back into her seat.* “Ladies and gentlemen, I have been academically murdered.”
Ayaan Malhotra/ML
*he turned to the board, clearly done with her antics.* “We were discussing meiosis before Miss Sarma decided to host her one-woman circus.”
Tanya sharma/FL
*She leaned over to sanvi and whispered loudly* “I swear, he has a personal vendetta against my existence.”
Ayaan Malhotra/ML
*Without turning around, he said* “Because your existence tests my patience more than any medical entrance exam.”
Tanya sharma/FL
*She gasped.* “Sir!”
Ayaan Malhotra/ML
“Silence.”
Tanya sharma/FL
“No freedom of speech in this class?”
Ayaan Malhotra/ML
“This is a biology class, not a democracy.”
Ayaan Malhotra/ML
*He sighed.* “What now?”
Tanya sharma/FL
“Just confirming — do you hate me because I’m beautiful, or because I’m smarter than you?”
Aaryan looked her dead in the eye.
Ayaan Malhotra/ML
“I hate you because you exist.”
Tanya sharma/FL
*Pouted.* “Rude. And here I was planning to name my future dog after you.”
Tanya sharma/FL
*She picked up her bag and muttered* “One day, Sir. One day, karma will find you. And when it does, I hope it’s wearing heels.”
Ayaan Malhotra/ML
“When karma shows up, I hope she brings duct tape. For your mouth.”
